What's In Your Vise Right Now?

Different day, working on different flies. Its mini crease flies today.

I liked all the talk of furled extended bodies, so I tied some up, then tied some emergers with furled bodies…think klinkhamer with a FEB and a deer hair wing. I like the way they look, fer sher!

Filling a box with nymphs, I’m currently tying some floss-woven stones. I’ll have to snap a few photos.

On the darkside, maribou crappie jigs!!!

My best friend from 6th grade is coming up, tied up a handful of poppers and some reverse spiders (it will be my first experience with those) to chase some bream.

Hi,

I’ve been inspired recently to tie up some American-style feather wing streamers. Having found some hooks of an appropriate type, here’s the collection that has come off my vice recently. Most are just me playing with the materials I have, but the Grey Ghost (top left)and Royal Coachman (3rd row, right) are recognizable patterns (I hope!). Third row right is a Winter’s Hope (based upon a magazine article picture; I think the hackle should have some blue underneath, and something more with the wing, maybe some bucktail?). Anyway, there’s also a few wee wets tossed in at the bottom as well, some with quill slip tails (again, Eric inspired - Thanks Eric).

P.S. Hmmm, the more I look at these, the more I think my proportions are wrong. I’ve been tying New Zealand matuka style streamers for so long, where the wing extends well beyond the bend. I think with the American streamer the wing is supposed to end just about the bend, or only slightly beyond. I can’t find Eric’s recent article though, as the “Just Old Flies” article keeps bringing me to the Proctor, and the archives don’t seem to be updated?

Good looking flies Jeff…love them!

Just tied up some of JohnScotts FEB stoneflies.

I was tying some Ruby Midges earlier today. Bead head version of the Diamond Midge from the book Midge Magic, but with red tinsel.
