I was tying up a few Crease Flies, and was just wondering what everyone else is tying right now. Here’s mine:

No pictures, seein’ as I am “technologically challenged”, but something called a Mickey Brim that I saw in PA Angler & Boater this month.
Hook: #6 streamer hook
Thread: 3/0 black thread
Weight: 10 wraps of lead
Tail: red wool (I use red maribu for livelier action)
Body: flat silver or gold tinsel
Wing: yellow calf tail (distributed evenly top, bottom and sides)
I’m hoping to try it out on a particular smallmouth that I know of in my local small river tonight.
Every kind of Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon fly I can think of. I am off to Belize tommorrow

In my vise it’s simple patterns right now. Tying prince nymphs today. Nothing special.

Tied this one just before dinner. Hadn’t even gotten around to taking it out of the vise yet.
This fly has a furled antron extended body which incorporates tying thread so the tails can be lashed to the extended body after they are tied down to the hook. The rest of the fly is a simple parachute dry using gray antron for the wing.
Fished this fly and a thorax version last year on one of our SE Idaho cutthroat streams during the Western Green Drake hatch and did quite well with both versions.

P.S. If I get out tomorrow on that cutthroat stream, I’ll post some pics tomorrow night of what it will do. ( How’s that for optimism ?? )

All purpose synthetic (angel hair) streamer. Under right circumstances works for tunas, bonito, barracuda, calico bass, halibut, sand bass, spotted bay bass, yellowfin croaker, corvina, bonefish, mackeral, trout, largemouth bass, and bluegill so far. Very quick to tie. Less than five minutes including coating the mylar tubing head with Loon Hard Head.

No pics, but I’ve been busy tying partridge and… soft hackles. Got some Silk thread at Joanne’s the other day, but it’s braided, not twisted, so I’m not especially happy with it. I will change colors with wax, but it doesn’t go very translucent. I guess I’m just going to have to break down and get some Pearsalls’ or YLI silk.

Tied up a half dozen leeches the other evening to finish up my warmwater season. They catch anything from shad to catfish and largemouths.
Other than that, my new fascination is with winged wet flies. So I’ve got a bunch of ugly-looking finished flies laying around with paired greenwing teal feathers everywhere.
Acquired a set of nice-looking dove wings today that I’m going to try and use for winged wets. They should have a nice dun color to them. Maybe a BWO winged wet in the works?
Headstand Carp flies.
This is the first time I have tried to make this fly…a real old pattern. It was originally for steelhead and cutthroat. Sorry about the photo quality. The only light was the vise light, and it wasn’t bright enough. I tried to fill it in with a flash light, but that didn’t help a bit.
What I dubbed a Hybrid Popper. Part tied like a normal popper but with a foam cylinder section from Wiggle Minnow foam. River smallmouth bass like it.
Fished the thorax version of the FEB Drake this afternoon. This is what it looks like out on the creek. ( Actually, from a fly tiers point of view, this is a poorly tied fly, but I like to let the fish be the judge. )
This is what it can do under the right circumstances.
Whether the fly is poorly tied or not …
Gearing up for a trip to Florida in a few weeks in hopes of hitting the mullet run; tying up EP baitfish, Kinky Muddlers, crease flies, etc. Always an interesting change of pace after nothing but trout flies for the past few months.
