I caught my grandfather once. Hooked him right in the ear with a baitcaster throwing a plastic worm.
he made it easy for me (: i’ll add a lizard fish(?) and lepard shark:)
… I could add a gray seal to my list…a smaller one, 400 - 500 pounds
I didn’t land it of course, but it sure made my drag sing
I’m just wondering what weight fly rod would be appropriate for these…the whale seems a bit big for a 7 wt, but i’d be willing to try…
Hey Gnu Bee,
Just had to ask. Was that bra you caught attached to a female or just swimming around in the ocean by itself?
Beaver
Pompano, Whiting, Croaker, Spot, Sea Trout, Weakfish, Sand Trout, Redfish, Grouper, Jack, Pufferfish, Pigfish, Pinfish, Southern Flounder, Northern Flounder, Gafftopsail Cat, Salty Cat,
Bull Shark and a few more that escape me at the moment. Once hooked a north bound Manata that spooled me on a 30 lb test surf casting outfit. Never knew he was hooked!
Snook, tarpon, redfish, flounder, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, houndfish, mangrove snapper, tripletail, ladyfish, bluefish, pompano and spotted seatrout.
I’ll keep this to just the fish I’ve caught in the Northern Californian Surf.
Pile, Barred, Walleye, Shiner, Redtail, Silver, Shiner, Striped & Rubberlip Surfperch. Opaleye,
Striped Bass, Cabezone, Kelp Greenling, Lingcod, Steelhead, Leopard Shark, White Croaker, Bat Ray, Pacific Halibut, Starry Flounder, Pacific Sanddab, numerous pacific Rockfish species, Jacksmelt, Staghorn Sculpin…I think that covers it.(?)
Around about February, I’d trade just about all of them for a warm sunny day and a few Crevalle.
Best, Dave
