I am refilling my hook invintory and was wondering what hook make do you buy and use for your trout flys.
Ghost.
Ghost,
I use more Mustad hooks than anything, but I also use some Dai-Riki and some Tiemco hooks. I use mostly Mustads and Dai-Rikis for dries, nymphs and streamers, but I like the TMC scud hooks.
Steve
GG,
I use a lot of Mustads for dries, Daiichi for North Country Spiders, Mustad for most wets.

I use lots of Mustads for most stuff…Tiemcos for the smaller stuff though, and I like their fine wire hooks for drys. I have a few special ones of the other more expensive brands, but I don’t think they’re realy worth the price. …Dan
I tie mostly nymphs, wets, and scuds, I use some foam flies for bass and crappie. Just gettin into litttle drys for this summer
Lots of Mustad for most trout flies, but when things get serious and big fish are at stake the Gamakatsus come out…

Tiemco mainly as they are the only ones available in my area with a wide arrangement of sizes and types. Recently I have been getting back into Mustad. I wish more of my local shops carried a larger assortment.
Mostly Mustad.
Deezel
For trout. Mostly Tiemco. The 101 for most nymphs and some dries. The 2488 for the rest.
Daiichi.
After tying on the mustad, tiemco and dai riki, I found Daiichi hooks to be the most consistent in quality and strength.
Dai-Riki, almost exclusively, except for the few miscellaneous hooks I bought for a particular fly. All kinds and sizes of dry, emerger / cripple, wet, nymph and streamer flies.
Mustad, Tiemco & Targus in thart order by volume. 95% Mustad.
Ray, I use a couple different ones.
For dries, I like TMC 2487BL for mayflies
TMC900BL for small dries like BWOs and midges
TMC100BL for large mayflies (drake size) and caddis
TMC 2457 for most nymphs, although I use dry hooks at times.
Dai Riki 700 for streamers. Would get barbless if they made em that way, but they work anyway.
I have a collection of various things, and I buy hooks on sale or as needed for specific flies, and am still using up old purchases and gifts as I run out of the ones I prefer.

Because they’re one of our SPONSORS, here, (as in MAKE THIS SITE, POSSIBLE!?), I ordered Hook and Hackle’s private brand of hooks, when refilling my hook boxes last time.
So, far, for all my tying, they’ve been really nice hooks, easy to de-barb, and a seemingly nice wire.
Compared to my Mustad’s, Teimco’s and “others” I tie with…for price, shipping, customer service and above all “quality”… I’ll be switching all my hooks as I need them, over to H & H’s own brand from now on!
I may need to give them a try when I need more, but I have a huge load of Daiichi now.

Mostly Mustad but got a good deal on ebay for an assortment of Dai-Riki and I have a pack of Tiemco a buddy sent me to try.

I use anything that its available really. I like to get good deals on things, so whatever I can get a good deal on. I do like to stick to a single brand in a certain style. Say I am low on dry fly hooks, and I get some tiemco’s I buy a size range of them, so my sizes remain cinsistent in the numerical value. When those run low Ill get whatever I can get a good deal on. Daiichi’s, Mustad, Partridge, Dai Riki.
i use mustad, tiemco, partridge, drennan, skalka, knapek, ken sawada, daiichi, dai-riki, gaelic supreme, varivas etc etc etc. gee, pretty much every foreign hook out there.
tie your flies on any manufacturers hook you want to tie on. i dont think theres any recorded history of any fish refusing a fly tied on a tiemco hook.
I use Daiichi for every thing
Gamakatsu (if I can get them for the required pattern - sometimes they are hard to come by).
And Mustad signature if I don’t have what I want cause:“If you don’t have what you love you love what you have”.
GG:
Daiichi, Tiemco and Mustad chosen based on who has the style I am after for the fly I am tying.
It took me a while to pick my favorites and reduce my former “too many styles” inventory so for the time being; I’m sticking with my choices no matter how hard they are to get!
