What I Learned Today

Yeah a french press makes a great cup of coffee. I have been looking for one that isn’t made out of glass. All the ones I find are glass and glass and I don’t get along. Speaking of bug dust I have a cloud of dust on my Tv screen from sitting in front of it when I did my flies for Diane’s swap. That stuff seems to shoot eveywhere.

Who has time for stress when there are fish to catch.

for a plastic or aluminum french press. Or, just google “plastic French Press” and you’ll get more links than you can handle. Wouldn’t want you folks at the fish-in to suffer without good coffee.

errrrr dremel dust body shots ?, hehe

as for coffee in the fish camp …take one small 15 gallon clean metal trash can, fill half way with cold Alaska stream water bring to a boil, when fire dies down and water comes off boil add a one pound can of folgers ( just dump it in) let stand for about 10 minutes, 20 if the natives aren’t restless, then scoop off the rainbow sheen on top (the oil has a bitter taste to it ) add one cup chicory ( postum ) and one cup wild honey, mix let settle and strain through cheese cloth, makes coffee for 20 men and fills all the thermos’s for a days fishing and hunting, plus theres enough left that when they come back out of the rain you’ve got some to re-warm them with

for the Aristocrats in camp, take the same coffee add a fist full of snow and a shot of yukon jack and retire to the fire and watch the sun go down

and here I thought I was so fancy with my latte.

nav 63, … YES “COwboy” coffee, …

Used to put an egg white in it to settle out the grounds quickly when the troops were getting antsy for their morning Java fix.

The espresso maker died one day on a tumble I took out of the Purcells (long tumble ) …

I like the Percolator now 'cause it makes LOTS, … coffee is REALLY HOT and you just can’t beat the smell of perking coffee on the old white gas stove in the morning as the sun is starting to burn the mist off the river

Add in the sizzle and aroma of the bacon hitting the cast iron gridle, some moose steaks, eggs over easy and Breakfast is ready (hot cocoa for Juniour)

Oh stop it Christopher! You’re making me hungry and I already had my breakfast.

Coffee in a garbage can for 20. Industrious! Industrial. Hmmmm. Way too many people for me to be around that early in the morning.

Aside from the fact that I usually drink tea now, we do have a stainless press pot made by Nissan that’s just the bee’s knees. We have the roaster grind a dark roast for espresso (very fine) instead of the usual press pot grind (med-coarse). Lovely crema on the top. Usually I don’t pollute it with anything unless my favorite fishing buddy buys a particularly acidic bean. Then I might put a spoonful of the River Chocolate Company’s chocolate sauce in it with some skim. No dremel dust for me, please. I just fished the hairy stonefly leg out of my cup.

Lalalala.

Too much time on my hands this a.m.

To me I think it might just be the location, all coffee is good at daybreak streamside watching the sun come up. I gotta have a good cup before I put those waders back on that I have been fishing in for 3 straight days and have a little ice in them from condensation overnight.
