What I did this Christmas morning......

While the others slept in (we did presents last night) I took a short trip to the river…

The circle; young eagle feeding on spawned chum salmon carcass.

Neat pic, Kerry.

Kerry,

I never tire of seeing eagles. They were very scarce, for a long time, here in Pa. We have quite a few now, although I have to travel about 20 miles to see them along the Susquehanna River. When I lived in the U.P. of Mich., I would have them in my back yard! I miss that and envy you! Thanks for posting the pic!

Best regards, Dave S.

A couple of more eagles. This was shot before I was setup using a 500mm lens and cropped. I heavily manipulated the picture and it isn’ very good. It was very under exposed but I wanted to show that there were many eagles at the location I was shooting. Shortly after I got setup several other people stopped where I was. The mature eagles were unconfortable with the extra attention they were getting and left leaving the young eagle shown above to feast on the salmon carcasses by itself.

They sure are good at catching fish…

Was fishing from a canoe on Deer Lake in the U.P. of Mich. when an immature Bald eagle landed on a high branch that kinda stuck out over me. He(?) seemed to be waiting for me to catch something, which I did shortly. Don’t recall what kind of fish, just remember tossing it out away from me, and the eagle swooping down and getting the fish. As he lifted off, a large feather came drifting down. Later an Indian chief, friend of a friend, commented that the eagle was honoring me with one of his feathers. Unfortunately, I was not able to except the honor(feather) because of federal rules, but I’ll always remember the gesture!!!

Best regards, Dave S.

Great Pics!!!
