To make a long story short, our county finally decided that they had to straighten out their GIS mapping systems, get rid of duplicate road names, and even put up street signs way up here in the mountains.
Our road was on “the list” – there was already a White Pine Court in a completely different area, 35 miles away, and it was in town with lots of folks living on that road. Our street has only 3 houses, so ours had to change.
But the county asked residents for public input, with the chance to name their own roads, or petition to keep the old names! Our neighbors on Dirt Road were able to keep theirs, after a letter from the VFD fire chief saying that the name was historic, and didn’t confuse us firefighters.
In fact everyone on our road is a musician, including me – so this is what we came up with, and it was accepted by the county! We all think it’s a hoot living on Boogie Woogie Way.
I’m glad all y’all got a hoot out of it too!
And yes, if you are lost in a blizzard (we had nearly a foot of snow just last nite) and see the sign, the password to get by my armed and grouchy neighbors is “danbob.”
Though if you have a guitar in your car and can play the boogie-woogie, you’ll probably do all right.
DANBOB
That’s cool! I hope you have better luck with the musicians that we have had with race fans. I live on Victory Lane. Our sign gets stolen all the time.
