What does this mean?

I made a call to the number on sign. No response yet.

My take on it is “Don’t mess with the Swallows”

It appears that the WDNR goes a step farther than the [url=http://ipl.unm.edu/cwl/fedbook/mbta.html:0f44d]Migratory Bird Act[/url:0f44d] as the WDNR says you cannot disturb them. In my cursory reading of the act it would seem that the handling and taking of feathers, eggs etc. would be prohibited but I read nowhere about disturbing them. In fact in California they are considered a nuisance to certain industries, and there are steps that can be taken to eradicate the nests (not the birds, of course). I am interested in following this thread and what the WDNR says regarding the sign.

p.s. Under the miscellaneous section of the act, there is a statement that states can make more stringent laws regarding the birds so…

I just got off phone with Wisconsin Offical.

He stated that the sign was NOT made by his office.

The landowner must have made it.

The statement on the sign in INCORRECT.

David Matheys says a citation and removal of the sign is in order.

Thank you for the follow-up.

this landowner has thrown rocks in ahead of other anglers…

had his dogs jump in water ahead of anglers…

He has covered the weight limiation sign on his bridge with a flannel shirt to hide bridge was public.

There was a sign on main road before his road…was weight limitation on bridge is 5 tons…
Sign disappearred one night.

This guy is outta control.

Right away I noticed the sign is too ‘Wordy’ and really is the Gov. going to spend money on signs protecting swallows? I’m certainly NOT in favor of protecting swallows by throwing rocks at fishermen!
Doug :frowning:

this landowner is rich guy with too much money.

Has rip rapped above and below HIS bridge.

He has paid neighbors to NOT let anyone on his neighboring water. He has another ranch near bozeman.

He fishes HIS water nightly.

it means bridge is on mash there is nest under that has rare birds
it measn landowner is nature lover

The swallows don’t need his protection. He is trying to intimidate others from fishing ‘his’ water.

Cliff swallows are not rare. Cliff swallows do not normally make nests in bridges they nest in cliffs. Thats why they call them cliff swallows. Barn swallows would be more likely to make a nest in a bridge structure.

Sounds like the guy needs a kick in the patoosh.

I wonder if he’s a big TU donor?
You don’t need money to be out of control…but it helps.

I’ll bet he’s a really SWEET guy that loves nature (swallows)
I admire his sign making attempt, but he needs to reduce the ‘pile’ of words on it! :frowning:

I don’t know the status of cliff swallows, but up this way the State spent a ton of $ building wooden trusses under a 4-lane bridge to provide nesting habitat for some kind of swallow. Apparently it encourages them NOT to nest on the steel supports. Don’t know if their doo rusts the bridge or interferes with painting/maintenence

I thought it was the goverment telling us in its normal confusing way that if you go under the bridge birds that may or may not be nesting there could crap on your head.

Is that one branch or ALL???

Sounds a lot like a person with a lot of bucks cant"get his way" with bucks so is making up a bunch of “whooiee” to get what he wants.
Typical “I have the cash so why Cant I have what I want”?
Unfortunatly I have been seeing that sort of thing a lot in the area that I live. Lots of cash running around here , so the folkes that have it have a sense of entitlement .
Sort of a “I have more than you so you better kow-tow to me” thing.
Hopfully this moron trips up and does somthing that he can be charged with.

Remember this, Cops and Fish Cops are working guys too ( I grew up with one, Brother is still one) and every once in a while  they love running into a jerk they can put charges on.

Okay - sounds like this guy is a total idiot.

But isn’t the DNR guy that you talked to the least bit interested in who is making false signs attributed to a state office and posting them?

what this guy did is not unlike putting up his own speed limit sign or stop sign on a public road. I know that impersonating a peace officer is a misdemeanor and possibly a felony depending on the seriousness of the crime.

I would have to think that the state should have some interest in this…???

I hope, if the sign as stated is a fake, the guy is prosecuted. If he has enough cash that the fine wouldn’t hurt him, maybe a couple days in the slammer would cool him off. Too bad that some folks put themselves so far above others.
Mike

C’mon Mike, you’re more creative than that. How about the offender spending a few days scrubbing bird droppings off other bridges?
