i am referring to the dark fur in the middle of a bucktail. the white of course has hundreds of uses but i cant think of a dang thing to use the dark bucktail hair for. what do you all use it for? or do you even use it at all?
thanks for any info.
I use the dark for making bucktail lead-eye streamers, where the white is over the dark to show as a white belly. I also tease the cat with both colors!

Bucktail streamer’s,Minnow pattern’s, the white for belly a bit of Pearl KF and the dark for the minnow back…Bead chain eyes, Tied in clouser fashion…I love’em!. Same purpose on a Mini Deciever. as well as Spinner’ed Minner’s…
Or send them to me!..lol
Just got 4 tails given to me this past deer season…One’s even small & sparse! Perfect Deciever tail!.
Bob Clouser tied me a clousers of course, with brown and white deer tail and a smaller verion with squirrel tail. Thunder Creek and Sockeye Fry BILL
I use mine for clousers, mostly. The brownish green on a chartruese bucktail is an excellent color to top a white/chart one.
i use the brown tail hari for tails on poppers
I use it wherever I want straight hair of that particular shade.
Tails on dry flies and nymphs, wings on streamers, wings on wet flies. The stuff in the middle of the tail right where it comes off the body makes great larger caddis and stonefly wings. I prefer it to calftail or squirrel forsome applications.

I use quite a bit of the dyed chartreuse bucktail
The “brown” center comes out a great shade of “olive”
It’s even a better shade than my “olive” bucktail
