This is a prototype of a new fly I’m tying for a competition, do you think it qualifies as a wet fly? if so what do you think about it? please be very critical, it is not perfectly tied because its a prototype every coment will help very much
Carpcrazy,
Your fly looks like a Wet Fly called "Alexandra"http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://bp2.blogger.com/_nQKeCfuGop4/RgAlNjQOQGI/AAAAAAAAABU/QwcCPdIFKl4/s320/alexandra-wet.jpg&imgrefurl=http://munkyfisher.blogspot.com/2007/03/alexandra-wet-fly-pattern.html&h=320&w=320&sz=24&hl=en&start=16&tbnid=vnmwG3MKJsJaqM:&tbnh=118&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3DAlexandria%2BFly%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
You did a good job of tying your fly!

Carpcrazy,
I think you should use more peacock and reduce the head size. I like your design though! Here is a Wet Fly that looks similar; "Alexandra"http://208.106.150.5/Uploads/Siteimages/Jungle%20Alexandra.jpg

Nice tie, but you did ask for criticism…
I agree with Doug that the peacock could be beefed up and also a little longer, and that the head is way too large. Also the body is real neat but could be a little longer too.
Well done.
yup you need to reduce and clean any stray fibers in the head area.
longer wing would be nice
i think the throat area needs to be fuller and the tips need to be even
Guys, thanks alot, I’ll modify the prototype and post it tonight, lets see how it improves hehe
Hi,
I like the colour scheme. I agree the wing should fill the space created by the topping and tail and a fuller throat with smaller head is needed. The tips for the topping and tail should just touch, but not pass each other. I think a tappered body might look good on this as well (thin at the bend and building up towards the eye). Finally, with topping and tail as is, it just calls for a tag of some sort. A flat blue tinsel tag would fit the colour scheme and would also work to visually extend the body.

I really like that fly, though it can have some improvements. It might be a little late but you can add a tag~ 3 close wraps, and tie in the GP crest tail by the rachus(I call it a stem) to get a neater tail. you might want to flatten the stem (gently) so that the tail will stand up nice and tall.
Carpcrazy, let us know how it works in the water.
