What are you tying at the moment...

Wow…this thread has really caught on. Hopefully tomorrow I will get some more tying done. Right now I am on size 16 Sulphur Comparaduns…soon I will be on size 18s.

ostrich bodied, brown soft-hackles with golden pheasant tails

For a salmon fly swap… tying a bunch of black prince flies right now.

For the box, adding a few more clouser minnows and planning on tying up some crawdad patterns for the local lakes.

Sean

nymphs, mallard flank tail, and wingcase, creme dubbing, grizzly wet hackle, palmered, apply, rinse, repeat.

whoa!..Ruger, great looking fly!
Hans…the EB CDC and elk looks very promising…one of the few “experiments” that will make it to the water.
Like the original, it’s very easy to tie…take a cdc feather with long barbules and smooth them up from the base…on a light wire emerger hook, tie it in base back with a light wrap then pull the feather back thru the wrap to body length you want…make a couple of tight wraps then lift the tip and advance the thread toward the eye…wrap the tip around the shank a few times for the legs…tie off and add the elk hair wing. Let me know what you think…Jason

Sidewinder Spider

Universal fly which will work on most species. I resort to this on ‘selective’ fish. Difficult to tie and the materials are a little pricey.

Need to take care on you back cast in case you take out a tree or another fisherman.

I too am tying a variation on the CDC and Elk. This one is a midge with a thin thread body and a ball of CDC at the thorax. The elk wing is gray with a stripe of white calf tail for better visibility. Sz 18 to 24.

Lately, local nymph imitations. #10 black Marabou Damsel Nymphs. Also some #8 Spongy (foam) Spiders.

I’m tying up; 5 dozen Ellerdine Enigmas, a doz. coral blobs, 2 gross peach-tail hares’ ears, 6 doz. each of red, black, olive epoxy buzzers, 6 doz. brown/pearl & tan/pearl gotchas’, a boxed selection of 100 dry flies & nymphs… hopefully after that little lot, i can tie a few for myself, then relax with a few beers!

Biot/cdc comparaduns 18 and 20. And, since I’m splitting tails, some RS2s 20 and 22.

Just tossed together one of these for a pic as we were “fresh out” when Mike asked for one…
