What a blast!

Went out 2 nights ago about 7:00pm and stayed until it was dark at a local lake. Found some fish swirling and figured that’d be a good place to start. Put on a yellow gurgler and wasn’t getting their attention, so I put on a Crappie Candy. I bet in an hour and a half I had caught and released over 50 fish, all on ONE fly!!! I was catching bluegills, crappie, and green sunfish easily every other cast.

So I called my cousin last night and we went to the same place, and caught about the same amount of fish between the two of us. I ended up hooking up with about a one-pound largemouth… a first on my 3-wt. My cousin and I each caught a big shiner right before we left. How crazy is that? Right at the end of our time, we would see a fish swirl on the surface, cast just a touch past it, and hook up within 2 seconds of the fly hitting the water.

Now I’m tying up another dozen or more Crappie Candy flies so we can keep doing this… but you’ve gotta love it!

Sweetness Sweetness Sweetness! Why drive hundreds of miles when it’s that good at home?

Got any photos?

Nope… was too busy tossing 'em back in and getting that fly back in the water. They were all pretty small fish, nothing major. I’ll convince the wife to come out sometime soon and give her the camera so I can get some pics!

Hey, Zac! Did you relocate? For some reason I had it in my mind that you were from out near Hays. Newton is close enough to meet at the lake sometime.

Greg

Greg,
The wife and I just moved. We had lived in Hays though, yes. A Saturday or Sunday get-together would be fun… we’ll have to stay in touch.
