The new Article under “Readers Cast” by Kathryn Randal, is well worth reading. Being of the male gender, it’s different reading a womans viewpoint. I agree with her about teaching a spouse …not an easy thing to do and not be overly critical or pass on you own bad habits, especially when your ego may cloud your own faults. Kudo’s to both Kathryn and her husband for persuing the best way to get involved in a great sport.
Excellent article and well written.
As a side bar, I have found women are much easier to teach to cast than men. I taught my daughter some years ago and she was casting as well in an hour as I was in my first year. Women have the ability to learn to be patient and gentle on those first learning casts. Their timing comes easy. Men, on the other hand, tend to immediately think power rather than timing. Their first casts result in a pile of line or a tailing loop right out of the box.
I am sure this is not universally true. Just my experience.
