How many of you use Weidner hackles for tying? I bought a #2 saddle for $10. For the price its really nice. Most of it is size 12. I hope the local shop will still have some the next time i get over there. The one i got is cree color. They had brown cream and a few others too. They also had some really nice looking hen capes.
hmm never heard of em!!!
but for 10$ i wouldnt trust the quality…i think i’ll stick wiht my whiting or conranch but if i ever see those i will buy em and check em out
Judge materials on their usefulness, not price, and you will have a material selection that not only makes your tying more satisfying but also has some real “sleeper” bargains as well.
can you buy them in a fly shop and get to chose the one you like or do you buy them online sight unseen and get what they want to give you.
my personal preference is that i want to inspect in my hand all capes and saddles before i lay down any amount of cash. i want to be able to open the package and splay out the feathers and see what kind of quality i’m buying. looking for web content, stiffness of the fibers etc etc etc.
thats my personal preference, yours will be different.
as far as i know they do not have a website. and yes i have looked on google. They may though, i may have just not found it yet. So i think you can only buy these at shops
Most reputable hackle growers will guarantee their product to the buyers satisfaction! If not they are not worth buying from. If you are not using hackle from the small growers you are MISSING OUT! Just my opinion though.
I know this thread’s been at idle for a time…But I’d just like to say that Scotty’s Hackle is quite nice for the money…I tend to do my buying right out of his stock bin’s…But he lives just over the hill from me…Guess I really need to pay a visit…as of late…I’m not seeing a whole lot of capes in the local shops…So am now wondering if he’s even still produceing…I have quite alot of his capes and especially enjoy his hen set’s!
