Went for an overnighter to one of my favorite deep nymphing locations.
It was slow, But the water was covered with Mayflies, Damsels and these beefy guys.
I went 30’ with a slipdicator and of all things…ORANGE chironomid. Not even sure why I tied an orange but glad I did. Good sized also. #12 tiemco #200R
This lake is Kamloop and I tell you…pound for pound, these guys fight!!!
Sure beat dry walling which I have been doing all summer!!! Wasn’t bad with all the rain and lightning, but NOW I NEED TO FISH!!!
It would have been a blast to catch one top water, but they really weren’t rising on a regular basis. The evenings would have been good, but didn’t get out in the evening. Too tired from the day:D
I know what you mean. JUNE is almost over and ONE WEEKEND to show for it.
The bad weather for the most part was to blame.
Time to make up for lost fishing time…right?!
Let’s see here, Thursday the 2nd, last dayshift, 7 days off, have my truck back, son and his family are moved finally, don’t have to help sheetrock in NE, Traci would like to go camping also, Granite Hot Springs, Granit creek, Hoback River, Beaver ponds, yea it might work , Yea, I might get a day or two in, the wife told me to get some fishing done or I might not survive the week. Could that mean I’m getting a little grouchy??? Work doesn’t call until Friday night the 10th. Will report back then!!
Lo, you are half right. It is the Griggs Vintage which has been determined as half and half, well maybe not half but a mix.
crappiecrazy, you take a regular fly rod (length and action, really not important as you won’t be casting)
Floating line, again, quality not really important cause you won’t be casting it. You do want a good floater though.
Now I take 20’ to 30’ of 6 or 8 lb fluoro. It would be cheaper to use mono and just add fluoro on the end which I will get around to one day.
You CAN’T have any knots in the leader except maybe the last 8’ to play it safe. The Slip Indicator does NOT go over KNOTS.
Now if you have sonar, you can see how deep the water body is. If you don’t have sonar I bought one of these weights used for ICE fishing.
I attach it to the leader and drop it down. When it hits the bottom, I raise it up one foot and mark it. Then I bring the weight back up, remove it, and set the indicator where I marked.
Basically the bottom fly is suspended one foot off the bottom.
As far as indicator, I use these:
Checked out the blog. Really cool how they slip down the line! I guess I am kinda confused on how you feed out the line with the indicator pegged at 30’. I guess you must feed out the line by hand sorta. Told you I was confused.
You are right. Just feed the line straight down to the spot you want the indicator. Then I usually kick back a ways and pull some line out also. I have even drag the set up over fish with out scaring them.
When the do hit, you do have to reel in all the way. No fun stripping fluoro.
I never have done any trout fishing but alot of panfishing from a kickboat. I guess you just kinda troll around the area where the fish may be holding? The reason I am asking so many questions is because I might like to try it on my warmwater fishin holes. One of these days I am going to do some trout fishin also.
This is just one brood of periodical cicadas - there are others that appear at various times. You may not have seen them, but you probably heard them. The sound is unmistakeable…
I wanna go toooooo. I haven’t strung a rod this year yet. Too much rain and too much family. Just ran off my kids and their kids this Sunday, and I’m still shaking like a spavined mule. Now to get by the wife’s family reunion this weekend, and the hope of a swift recovery looms, along with the hope of some stream time. A good soak in the pool at Granite sounds about right as well. Are the streams fishable up there Byron? Most of ours are still bankfull. The chironies will have to wait Joni.
