So as not to high jack JC’s thread…
I thought you might be interested in this…
Indeed WD-40 will “freeze” …it is the propellant that is in the aerosol can…it builds up a lacquer like substance.
It is not present in the bulk form that you put in a hand sprayer.
Duck hunting with an automatic and being lazy I decided to spray it every time I went out using the canned stuff and knowing what would eventually happen…as time went on the action would get slower but each time I sprayed it it would recover…well finally…after averaging 2x /week for 3 seasons it was just too much…so it was cleaning time.
That lacquer like stuff was really built up in there …almost had to chip it out…but I can tell you “brake cleaner” is really effective as a cleaner and solvent.
I’ve used the bulk stuff with no problem and it is a nice protectant to use as you start a rainy day…does evaporate.
I don’t use it on my fishing stuff though…pretty sure it clouded a finish on one of my rods…there I got back to fishing.
