Water proof rain jacket

Need help finding a good water proof jacket. I have a simms light weight, it fits in a bag 9inx9in and takes up the whole back pocket in my Fish Pond vest (too big). Need a much smaller one that is light and water proof. Any Ideas?

                                                                   JaD

9 X 9 is pretty small. I have this one:

It fits in a small tube shaped bag (included) that is about the size of a pint bottle of water. It’s so small, I’ve forgotten it was in the back of my vest when it started raining.

Guess I should mention this - it weighs a whopping 5 oz.

I know of 2 good jackets.
I got to try it on at the store. Its so thin I would wear it in an August downpour.

I would recommend the one I got ALSO, but it appears they have discontinued it! It was a redhead rain jacket, folded into a 6x4 little mesh cylinder baggy.

Marmot Precip
Packs into its own pocket, and only 13 oz.

Yeah - I’ve been trying to think of the name of that jacket since I saw this thread come up.

Here’s one link with a lot of information on it.

I got an LLBean one and am very happy with it for the price.

Thanks for the replies.
I ordered a William Joseph 5 oz packable.

Hi John - You made a great choice - for $60, you’ll never find a better quality ultra light breatheable fabric jacket with all the features that one has. I actually bought mine at TCO Fly Shop, and I remember thinking the price was a mistake. It wasn’t, and neither was my decision to buy it! Typical William Joseph quality construction…Ed

Hi ED
I ordered the jacket from Riverbum.com and also free shipping. If it a good rain jacket ,and I have no doubt about your judgment, hard to beat.

                                                                           Thanks again every buddy

                                                                               John

Cloudveil Zorro Jacket hands down. It’s $130 or so bucks and it’s my favorite jacket. Even packs down small. www.cloudveil.com

I’ve shopped for a long time for a waterproof packable jacket to keep in my vest. I found some great deals lately for anyone else that is shopping, but ended up with a new Marmot Pre Cip from Ebay very reasonable.

http://www.mrfc.com/MadisonRiverShopping/SearchResult.aspx?KeyWords=jacket William Joseph here for $40 plus some other good deals.

I have the William joseph jacket, too. Great to have, and even makes a great wind breaker for colder weather layering. I don’t pack it in the tube it comes in though, just fold it up nice and flat when it is dry and slide it in one of my pack pockets within a pocket.

I have several, but the Freestone is usually the one I have in my pack when on the water. Lightweight, waterproof, and well designed.

Frogg Toggs are exceptionally waterproof and lightweight. My son took a set with him on a Boy Scout 50+ mile backpacking excursion in New Mexico.

Sorry folks but for the prices you are paying in my opinion you are still getting soaked. If it’s summertime and a warm rain I do not wear rain gear. I am a fisherman so I expect to get a little damp from time to time. Believe me I will not melt. If it is cold enough for me to wear some type of rain gear it is either my Poncho or one of these:

To each his, or her, own but that jacket has been a great investment!
