I’ve been tying up some flies for salmon fishing and late season trout. Curious to see what everyone else is tying this fall.

Tying up various midge patterns. The family is heading out in a couple of weeks for the annual family gathering in the Sierra’s.
been tyin some steelhead stuff. not cause steelhead is in my future, cause i really enjoy tyin them.
I am experimenting with 2 different Mayfly patterns wishing I had a Nor-Vise.
one with dubbing and one using Yellow 2mm foam.
I’m still tying Pine squirrel flies, particularly RLS’s. I think they’ll be killer for fall whites and smallies so I want to make sure I have enough not to have to stop fishing and tie more. Of course having plenty of them on hand might be the kiss of death, too. Darn, hadn’t thought of that. Hmmm…
After all the nasty remarks the trout made about my dry flies yesterday, last night I rehabed several 18’s & 20’s from my box. Trout can just be so snide and snooty some times. The good news is my abilities have improved, the bad news is there is still a long way to go.
Split case nymphs (weighted and unweighted) small midges, and CDC comparaduns.
North Country wet flies, primarily spiders, some winged flies as well. They are just so easy to tie and work so darn well.

I’m tying up some half stone’s that I saw in one of Donald’s posts and on his web site. Not sure when I’ll get a chance to use them, but I’m ready for when oppertunity knocks.

Me too. Did some long and short shank versions as wet flies using some yellow button hole twist that Donald sent me. On the long shank versions I palmered the hackle through the mole (kind of like a flymph or Baillie’s spider), using honey dun hen for the whisks and hackle. On the short shank versions I used far less hackle and tied them like spiders. I’ll be tying a few dry versions of this fly as well.

I’ll be tying up some #20 Griffith’s gnats, #4/#6 Black ghost streamers and #16 orange beetles plus some #20 BWOs. That should keep me busy for a little while!
Wes - Nice fly! , but it appears that you are low on small hooks. I will gladly trade you some small hooks for those big ones you got!!! LOL! You could tie two of those flies on that one hook. The fish will think theres a hatch!!! Actually, I was just looking at some low-water steelhead patterns last night in H. Kent Helve’s book Steelhead Fly Tying Guide and thinking I should tie some - just because they are pretty neat.

well fishdog i have salmon hooks to size 8 low water and regular, i think. i just like the looks of those alec jackson hooks from diaichi. that hook is a 1.5 alec jackson.
I bought a hide from the Sportmans Warehouse and decided to practiuce doing soft hackles. I have tied about 50 of these on a #12 hook. Tail & body are of one feather near the rear of the bird and the hackle from the neck. Don’t know what I will do with them but they are fun to tie.

I’ve officially entered “the Grind”, those few weeks before Erie steelhead spent tying all the “crap” as opposed to the nice pretties most guys prefer to tie. I’ve cranked out over 100 eggs over the past week and have almost that many more to go. Then it’s on to buggers, then either PTs or little stones…sigh I can’t wait till I can go back to my tinsel and floss…

my current article is “bucktail streamers from a to z” taken from various streamer books, non winged flies from ray bergman (as seen in “forgotten flies”), a series on “brown hackle” flies from “perraults standard dictionary of fishing flies” to go along with the article on “gray hackle” flies. maybe an article on a beginners tying tool kit.

I picked up a Conranch Cree JV Hen hackle a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been tying some soft-hackles with it for my box. Awesome hackle!!..can’t say enough good about it. And putting together a version of the October Caddis wet to add to my swap fly.
