Was given an old rod...

A friend just gave me an old “Heddon Expert” bamboo fly rod. I won’t be fishing w/ it - I have plenty of rods and he just gave it to me b/c I would appreciate it - It has the following numbers written on the base near the handle:
#12.5 - 81/2’ - 21/2 - F - HCH or D.
What do these numbers mean?

Thanks

Pat

The letters I am sure mean it takes a 7 dt(HCH) or 6 level fly line. The numbers I’m not sure.

Pat,

allexperts joe covered your rod well.

To add a little…the Premier and Expert Heddon Sears rods were made from
1948 to 1952. The 2 1/2F designates a 19/64ths butt ferrule. A bass/heavy trout rod. Heddon would have said the rod was “built on” a 2 1/2F ferrule.
All of Heddons tapers/actions were the same throughout their line-up.
A Black Beauty built on the 2 1/2F ferrule would be the same taper/action as a Lucky Angler built on the same ferrule with
both being of equal length.

One other thing of note (you’re probably saying…“dang, I didn’t need this much info”) is that the ferrules on these particular Heddons (especially the Expert) have a tendency to crack. There has been much debate over why.
Just a word of caution if you ever do decide to fish the rod.
