All the squirrels that feed on my bird feeders have been warned. I have started to play with dying my own feathers and skins. So from this day on the rule of staying off my bird feeders will be enforced, they are still welcome to all the spilled feed they want and to feed on the 2 squirrel feeders with out fear. But attempts to get onto the bird feeders will end up with a invite to the stew pot and the dye process.
Are they starting to look like this one!!
Lots of fur on that one
Now you’ve done it. That photo of an obese squirrel will surely get the 1st Lady to begin promoting bird and squirrel foods that contain less calories, more proteins, thinner shells and easier digestion. These new foods will only be available at the US Post Office. This new program will also place stiff penalties on home owners whose bird feeders are not certified squirrel proof by the new American Bird and Squirrel Agency that will monitor, regulate and promote better backyard practices and healthier lifestyles of said animals. Among the catagories of the regulations will be:
- Types of food and food source
- Bird houses and feeders
- Fencing of property
- Safety issues re: household pets and/or ferrel animals
- Exercise programs
- Number of birds(singing or otherwise) allowed per household. Licensing will be mandatory
- Other
- Penalties for non-compliance

Actually, that’s a lot of my favorite dubbing on that one!
I want you to know that I laughed out loud as soon as I saw the title of this thread…
Get the tails too! They make gorgeous hairwing streamers!
I thought I had a agreement with our backyard squirrel. we feed him at his own feeder and he stays of the bird feeder. now he’s getting a little too pushy. if we open the window to feed him he comes running over from the other side of the yard. now my son has called me an enabler and that I;m contributing to the squirrels poor health. so last week I felt bad and started splitting my Lipitor with him. he looks better and I thought he had a little more spring in his step. then I realized “that wasn’t Lipitor”
now the chipmunks are raiding the feeders. Can i tie nymphs with them???
I have had some fun today collected no meat or fur, but it is fun to watch the wifes cat stalk the squirrels and chase them off the bird feeders. So far they have been smart enough to not go up the maple tree, there is no way out if they do. Then I have to go out and bring the cat back in.
Popperfly,
Did you stick a woodchuck in a tree to make that picture?
That is one fat tree rat.
And the forefeet look like hooves…

lol. I have enjoyed countless hours watching the squirrels figure out ways around those so called squirrel-proof feeders. They don’t give up and some in their frustration have gone to damaging some of the feeders, at least cosmetically.
i used to use Vaseline to greese the pole for out bird feeders talk about fun climb slide down climb slid down it would be hrs befor they gave up i mean come on lol.
If you have them on a Shepard’s hook spray the pole with Pam cooking spray. Then let the fun begin. I have a Grackle that sits in one feeder and bombs the squirrel on the head with seeds intentionally. Comical as can be! L.o.L.
Squirrel greased pole climbing sounds like a kick to watch. If you want to do something else that is funny as hell with squirrels; feed them peanut butter from a table spoon. They get the stuff all over themselves. I think peanut butter is good for their coats also so you would be enhancing any tying material you may harvest in the future.
LOL!! I had rat raiding the feeders a few years ago. That thing was so dang smart I had to play it his way. Window open and 22 rifle padded up so it wouldn’t move. Endeared the cold wintery wind and finally blew it the other side. But not much for tying materials tho.
I hear they make great stew or so the story goes from Shamokin, Pa.
Hold on, back up, you have to dye them. I’ve spent years sitting in the woods waiting for a chartreuse squirrel to come along. Geez, I feel so stupid…
You want a squirrel?? I’ll box up the next one I catch in my trap and mail it to you! Free of charge!
The first batch of tails and skins will be chartreuse.
Why bring the cat in??? Let it kill the fuzzy little rat…that’l teach him…I got it!!! Then you can rename the cat Seal Team 6…the Fuzzy Rat Killer!!
