Wanted- Peak Vise Table Clamp?

Anybody happen to have a Peak Vise table clamp you are no longer using that you want to sell or trade for Peak vise pedestal? I got a deal on a second Peak vise from Cabelas and it came with the pedestal, but I want the table clamp to use this vise for my travelling vise.

I thought I would try here first.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Roy

I have been looking to. The only one I found is on EBAY. Its $40 but probly worth it.

The Peak vise main vertical post is the same diameter as that for many namebrand vises. Because of this, most vise clamps are interchangeable.

Yes they are usually 3/8 th dia and with a phone call to Griffin im sure you can get a c clamp for a lot less then the $40 shown in the post above. Call toll free 800-344-3150 BILL

I have a Montana Mongoose Pedestal rotary. The pedestal was adequate until Buddy put the 4" turning wheel on it. Then IT needed a clamp to table. I just use a 4" C-Clamp from Harbor Freight and clamp the pedestal base to any table I want. No need to switch to a C-clamp type mount. And I have several veese?..vises. Several c-clamp models and they don’t always fit various tables. The pedestal vise C-clamped to any table works best for me. Never loosens or turns on you like a true c-clamp to a table can…it if is not a perfect fit. Only way to go IMHO.

Gemrod after reading roygpa original post Im assuming he feels he would like to use a c clamp to hold his vise for travel use. Ive never had to clamp a pedistal base to a table--------BILL

roygpa and golfinjoe24, I think I have two c-clamps at home. Will look tonight and let you know. I use a pedestal base so have no need for them. Don’t particularly want to sell them; how about a trade? Got any fly tying materials you don’t need? Will check back tonight or tomorrow. Ron

First, Welcome ronhenry123-a nice first post also.
Now, roygpa, as to the thread - I have been using my Thompson A clamp for traveling (that 5 lb base is a chunk, ain so). I am sure that you could find one of those around (e-bay?) Good luck on your search.

I traveled with my Peak base for about a year. If you are thinking that it will be more convienient to travel with the table clamp please consider that the clamp won’t fit all tables. Sometimes you won’t want to put it on someone’s grandmothers table that they brought over to this country on the boat either. The real secret to having it be easy to travel with is to find the right bag or travel accessory. I am using the Coyote Bag from Fishpond and it has a nice pocket that holds the base and I find the base better than any C clamp. The Coyote bag has some limitations. I needed more thread tubes and I replaced the hook boxes with something that actually worked.

Here is another option but I would confirm that the Peak vice fits in this pedastal base pocket before I bought it: http://www.bearsden.com/product3273.html

Orvis has one too, but I just like the Coyote better http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=75PG&dir_id=1273&cat_id=5436&subcat_id=6474&Group_ID=1289&bhcp=1

The Peak vise has one of the nicest bases in the industry. It would be a shame to go to something that isn’t as nice.

I have to endorse this post 110%. I carry BOTH the c-clamp and Peak pedestal base in a Browning ammunition bag with my vise and Ottlite and all other vise accessories. Is it heavy? Sure. But you are FAR more versatile traveling with a pedestal base than a c-clamp. The Peak pedestal base IS probably the finest in the industry. It was measured, weighed, and tested thoroughly to determine maximum stability with the Peak vise using the brass extension which raises the height of the vise. The rubber “feet” are extruded rubber (much more expensive) so that they are far more tacky - giving better traction on slick surfaces like table tops. That’s why it’s $40. And you don’t want to trade one for a c-clamp.

Peak is an industrial machining company 100% US-owned and operated that happens to be owned and operated by avid fly anglers and tiers. So the vises, tools, etc. are a portion of the business performed by top notch mechanical engineers and master machinists right there in Loveland, CO. They also happen to be really great people who do a lot of good in the community. I’m very proud to be associated with them.

So you may want to check out the Peak c-clamp accessory. It is a superior clamp. But most any will fit. Also, as to slipping and scarring…

You know those thin rubber “gripper” thingy’s for opening jars and such? (the real original name of those was the widget) Find one. Cut yourself 2 2x2" squares out of it. Always use one on the top c-clamp contact point w/the table. And use one underneath whenever you can. Tighten the clamp as far as your fingers will allow until it becomes very uncomfortable to try and turn further. It will not slip now, and would only scar VERY soft wood that you should not be putting a clamp on anyway. Try not to use thicker rubber as it limits the gap range of your vise clamp. And use only extruded rubber if possible, as it is both very durable and very “grippy.”

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I ended up buying the clamp off of ebay.
