Wanted, Bugologist

Hi Folks,

We have an interesting thread running
down on the Warmwater board about entomology
and warm versus cold waters. As I know we
have some very good amature entomoligists
that frequent FAOL, and I suspect most are
trout fishers, I would like to invite you
share your thoughts with us over on the
Warmwater board. Your input would be much
appreciated. Warm regards, Jim

All fish must eat, coldwater or warmwater.
They eat what is available. Amazingly the same insects are found in most water, all across the world…not the specific species, but the same general families.

We did compile a listing, with photos and in most cases the flies to match here:

The NQ (Not Quite) Entomology series does not include snails, frogs and minnows since they don’t fall into entomology.

The rule of thumb on insects is pretty simple; if the bugs wings are straight upright it is a Mayfly. Tent shaped wings over the back are Caddis, and flat to the body are Stoneflies.

Have fun.

Thanks LF,

I don’t know why I didn’t do a search on
FAOL. And the rule of thumb you site is
simplicity personafied. Much appreciated.
Warm regards, Jim

Mr. Hatch-

Okay, you succeeded in luring at least on innocent bystander into commenting on the Warmwater Forum. I hope you’re proud of what you’ve done. LOL.
