I have been a silent member of this board for a while & I certainly respect & value the advice that has been given out.
Question about waders, your view on the Orvis pro-guide. I talked with a flyshop here in Ontario & recieved an ear full of negative, how they are made in Asia & on & on. They look to me as if they will serve my purposes well. I just need some advice or past experience from fellow flyfishers
I own a pair. I bought them over Simms G3 series waders. That said, they are bluntly, tough as nails. I beat my waders, been hung up on barbed wire among other things and no leaks so far. Plus, they are $150 cheaper than the G3’s. If they leak, send them back and Orvis will replace them. The only thing I don’t like is that they feel a little heavy. Maybe it’s the double fabric in the high wear areas, I don’t know. The articulated knees are a nice touch too.
Also, they have handwarmer pockets built in. Gotta love that if you fish in the cold
I bought a pair of the older ones and did not care for them because they leaked after a short time. I called Orvis when they were 2 years old. They repaired them. Then I called them again and said the warranty when I purchased them said they would be replaced for a charge, on a scale as to how old they were. To make a long story not so long, a pair of the New Guide Waders only cost me $9 and change. The first time I wore them it seemed like they leaked in the crotch but it was very small so I thought it could be condensation. I wore them 2 more times and the same thing happened. My season ended suddenly then and did not get a chance to use them again. Then one day I got a letter from Orvis asking me to check a number on them and if it was the right number, to send them back because there was a problem with leaks with that lot number. I sent them back and they refunded my postal fee. I could have got my money back or a new pair. I chose a new pair and I am expecting them any day now. Orvis did tell me that from now on every pair of Pro Guide waders that were shipped will be tested in their Virginia warehouse. The new ones are much stronger than the old style. I chose the new pair because I could not afford the difference between them and a pair of Simms G3’s at this time. Jan
Our Orvis rep did tell us that there was a problem with a certain production run for their Pro Guide and Silver Label waders. It was a quality control issue and they were going to replace the particular waders for their/our customers. The new Pro Guide waders though should be just fine and I highly recomend them. It sure is nice not having to keep up with your wader belt during potty breaks
