Waddington shanks - do they make a single wire version?

Been thinking of tying a deer hair popper on a Waddington shank but so far all the shanks I have seen have a double wire. This is going to make it hard to spin a deer hair body. Is there a manufacturer for a single wire Waddington shank where you only have the loops for the hook eye and hook holder?

Thanks,

Alberto

Maybe use something like this…then bend a small loop in the rear for the hook?

Why? All too often these sorts of questions are asked when there might be a better answer if a few more details were provided. If all you were trying to achieve, for example, is to have a short shanked hook on a spun deer hair body, then a tube fly approach might be a better approach.

The Waddington shanks are what they are, but Fish Skull’s Articulated Shanks are only a single piece of wire for most of their length, so they would be a slightly better match for your original request: http://flymenfishingcompany.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Flymen-Articulated-Shank-Family1.pdf

No reason why you cannot just use a regular hook as a shank as well. Just depends on what you are trying to achieve.

Whatfly,

You hit the nail on the head with the Articulated Shanks, thanks.

I was trying to have a short shanked hook on a spun deer hair body. I have tried the tube fly approach but find that packing deer hair on a tube is a difficult task. What I’m trying to do is to take away the leverage the fish can get on a long-shanked hook. With the Articulated shanks I can use a short egg hook or even a short double hook while still being able to spin a tight deer hair body.
