What is your favorite vise. i am looking at getting a vise and was looking at the renzetti CAM traveler.anyone use this vise
I have a cam traveler. It’s a very nice vise. Mine is the clamp model. It works very well. The rotary action is very smooth. It’s going to be my travel vise.
What size flies do you tie? If you do alot of real small flies a fixed vise may be better for access to the back of the bend.

I have a Traveller with the old jaws. Love the vise; cam jaws would be nice but wouldn’t improve my tying and at this point I can think of better ways to spend $75.00. You should try it before you buy, but I think you will be happy.
Regards,
Scott
I dont tie smaller than size 16 usually. I like to tie steelhead flies. I went to a friend of my grandpas house and he ties commercially and does a lot of demos and has the dyna king barracuda. i was looking at that and liked it but it was pricey
i use an original renzetti traveler and changed out the original head with the cam lever head. dont see the need for anything else.
I have the original Traveler with the screw lock jaws. It’s a good and very popular vise. I never saw the need to switch over to the cam jaws as the vise worked fine as is. I now use an HMH Spartan since the more traditional design of this vise gives me better wing access for tying wet flies. Unless you are interested in true rotary tying, I think the HMH is a better vise. But you will do well with either one.
I use a Supreme. I tried a rotary vise when I purchased mine…and decided it didnt offer me a thing more
I have a renzetti presentation 2000, and a HMH spartan. I love both of them. The only con to the HMH is that if you want to tie flies in size 22 or smaller you have to change the jaws out. They are easy to change just an extra step. I don’t have to do that with the Renzetti.
i have a Renzetti Traveler, a Peak Rotary and several old Thompsons. All of them I have set up with pedestal bases that I definitely prefer. All work well but I feel more comfortable using the Rensetti with smaller flies under size 12. I cannot comment on any long term durablity.
I use the Spartan for my small flies. I never tried it for wets. I’ll have to try it. I now use the Barracuda for my larger flies. I like the true rotary for wrapping hackle. That’s why I’m using the Traveler for my traveling vise.

I had a Renzetti cam traveller… Bought a Peak a week ago. I strongly prefer the Peak. Especially for flies that are a bit larger. The base is large and heavy and the vise itself is overbuilt and bulletproof. I am very impressed, especially considering that the Peak is 30 or 40 bucks cheaper.
Try a Regal if you get the chance. I’m surprised noone has mentioned them yet.
Love is never having to adjust your vise and still never having to worry about a secure hold.
I have a cam Saltwater Traveler and like it a lot, but since I started selling the Peak I like the way it’s made as well. It is a heavier vise, but both are great, but my Cam Renzetti cost a good bit more than the Peak. Cost difference in my Saltwater traveler and the Peak would have probably made me go Peak back then, but I didn’t really know anything about Peak then either. The difference is teh Cam Saltwater Traveler was a little over $200 and the Peak is like $143 ish, but if it was mine I would add a few of the little accessories that would make it a little more than the $143 and it would depend on how many of them you would choose because enough accessories could make it a lot closer in price for sure.
I will say the jaw of the Peak is much larger than the Renzetti so maybe that will make a difference too???
I say all the above, but I also have a Nor and just love it and use it the most for sure.

I tie on a Peak. I’m surprised that one hasn’t been mentioned yet. Great vise for the buck.

Regal.
Got a couple vises but the Regal is far away my favorite.
Like someone said above, it’s nice to squeeze a lever, put the hook in and let the lever go and start tying. Some may like to mess around with adjustments, etc, but I’m not fond of that.
I was tying on a Renzetti Presentation 4000 with cam jaws and a saltwater base. What a hell of a great vise. I bought and used a Renzetti Traveler with cam jaws for trips and tying shows. It was a good vise but not as nice as the Renzetti Presentation 4000. I gotten into tying Salmon flies as well and now needed a vise that could basically do it all. I tried a few vises out there and went with the Renzetti Master. What a great vise. I wound up selling my Renzetti traveler and now use my Presentation 4000 for shows and travel. The Traveler is a very good vise , but make sure you get the cam jaws. Regals are nice vises but I did not like the idea of having to change the head to tye Salmon flies and then change again to go back and tye regular Trout flies. I have looked at peak and also took a lok at Danvise to see what all the hype was about. Sorry board but Danvise are cheap plastic disposable vises and Peak is a wanna-be rotary vise that can not compete with a Renzetti Presentaion 4000. I feel you need to go and take a look at the vises and try them out before making your decision. What might be right for me may not be right for you and so on.
Regals are nice vises but I did not like the idea of having to change the head to tye Salmon flies and then change again to go back and tye regular Trout flies.
Ever use a Regal?
I’ve tied up to #2 and down to #22 with the standard jaws with no problems.
Even if you really feel you must change jaws, the procedure would take less than a minute and all of your adjustments from there on out would be non-existent, meaning less adjustments in the long run.
If you like Renzetti, that’s your deal, but I’m curious why you’d cite such a simple, quick loosening and tightening of a single knob on a Regal to be such a deal breaker when it clearly isn’t a big deal to do so with your preferred vise. That’s what made me wonder if you’d actually used the Regal, since that was one of the features I liked about it.
Heck, I’ve tied on a #2 B10S hook on my Regal that has the Midge jaws on it with no problems!
Because of the way my post was perceived by some I should clarify. I was not trying to sell a vise to anyone and when I said that the Peak Jaw was larger and may make a difference, this means you may find it easier to tie small things on the Renzetti since it is much smaller at the jaw. Also again my favorite is my Nor Period.
I will refrain from going into more about any of these except to say I have tied on all 3 plus a Danvise and I like all three of the ones above a lot. My trying so many in a short time I have been tying is for several reasons, but still I do have some experience with all of the ones I mentioned.

I have an HMH Spartan, and like it very much. I do not tie under size 16, so I don’t need smaller jaws. I tie mostly 12-2/0 hooks, and it works great for that.
