Nice job Hans.
Reminds me of the Knock Down Dun in concept.
What is the most popular size when fishing? I note you tied on a 14?
Seems like rotary might be the way to go in wrapping the abdomen?
Thanks!

Hans, I really like this one… very nicely videoed and tied. Snowshoe is great material. Thanks for putting it up for us, Doug.

There is no single most popular size, Byron. Richard fishes them down to #24. Smaller than #20 will have thread bodies only.

Hi Byron,

I am not familiar with the Knock Down Dun, so cannot comment.

I prefer to wrap by hand.

Hans, I really like this MRE fly…Thanks for sharing all your videos with us here on FAOL.

Does MRE stand for Midge Rabbit Emerger?

chuckle Start the video, listen, and all will be revealed…

Didn’t catch it at the beginning of the video

Meals Ready to Eat. As in the military meals in a bag. Very good Hans

For those of us who were in the service years ago, they were called C Rations or K Rations. When I was in the service in the late 60’s, we were still eating those old rations. A cardboard box with a small can of “roast beef”, small can of fruit, crackers or cookies, AND a tiny pack of cigarettes…
Sorry to “Hijack”, but couldn’t resist.

And this fly looks a lot more appetizing than the military MRE’s I’ve seen…

Hans,

The “Knock Down Dun” is a small recently emerged dun which gets blown (knocked down) onto/into the surface film. It is used a lot by Craig Mathews and gang in a baetis.

Perhaps someone else can tie a better version for you to inspect?

This is on a std. dry fly hook #16.

As the Trout sees it

Although the last MRE"s I consumed were not that bad, I don’t know anyone who has eaten many who would consider using them for bait, if I invited a good fly I think I would call a Ruth Chris.

Thanks for the sample, Byron.

Hans W
