vices: Peak vs. Renzetti

a friend has offered to sell me a barely used Renzetti Traveller vice, plus the cam midge jaws, pedastel and c-clamp. n Before this I was all set to purchase the Peak vise. Does anyone who has seen both have any opinions to offer? The price is the same. I have always thoght that the Renzetti might be too small, but I haven;t actually been able to see the peak vise in person so it may be athe same size for all I know.

Thanx

My choice would be the Peak.

Now what?

Cheers,

Soup,

I’m not familiar with the Peak but I am with the Renzetti. My choice is same as Hans’.
By the way, are they the same price?

Allan

I have the Peak and I am very satisfied, I have one of the earlier models from before it was modified, I believe for patent reasons.
So I agree with Hans. It is interesting that Allan(tyeflies), who is familiar with the Renzetti also agrees with Hans in favour of the Peak.

Go with the Renzetti, all the way its a great vice.

I’m with Hans…Peak.

any of you care to say why you like the one you like? Peak is on my radar, too.

I’ve got them both.
I’m currently using the peak primarily and love the easy access cam jaws. it is solidly built and very functional.

the renzetti remains more comfortable, but that’s probably the result of years and years of tying thousands of flies on it.

personally I prefer a c-clamp to a pedestal and the peak stem fits the renzetti clamp.

basically yer looking at a win/win situation no matter what you choose.

I don’t suppose you could test drive them both to see which is a better fit?

I have not used the Peak, but on my Renzetti Traveler I tie small trout flies and larger saltwater flies with the same jaws. It’s the right vise for me.

Soup,

Tell your friend I’ll buy the Renzetti if you don’t!

Small flies work best. Elephants eat peanuts.

I’ll have to vote with Han’s on this one. Having both the vises, I prefer tying on the Peak. IMO, the only thing the Renzetti does better is travel because it’s smaller/lighter.

The Peak has a 6 inch square, heavy base. Very stable but big and heavy if your putting it into a portable tying kit. So it depends on your intended use. Try to see the Peak in person. There is a list of dealers on their website.

Jay

Renzetti Traveler.

Huh?

How many of the folks offering their preference between the two options have had serious one-on-one tying time on both vises I wonder…

Didn’t vote since I’ve never tied with the Peak. Besides, my Presentation works very well and, because of the cost and the fact it was a gift I had BETTER like it!

one that I know of, but he (me) didn’t really indicate a preference for either.

Hans,
Only a “one-night stand” with the Renzetti but it was love at first tie with the Peak and since I’m a monagamous-type . . .

JC,

Not the model at hand here, but I have owned my Renzetti Presentation 3000 since August 1986 (collected it at the 1986 FFF Conclave, Penn State). Enjoyed tying on it until I received my present vise in 1989. The renzetti has been collecting dust since, but no interest in selling it on.

Man of many Vices (the English-English spelling has a lot more scope, doesn’t it? )

I have tied on my Renzetti traveler for over ten years. I was having a hard time getting my vice to hold my hooks securely while spinning deer hair. Purchased a peak a few months ago. My hooks are held rock solid. The Peak is the vice for me!!!
