If you’re already using snowshoe hare’s foot fur for the wing, you can get nice dubbing by using the shorter hair on the top of the foot. If you have the correct color of hare’s foot out on the bench already, it could save you breaking out the hare’s mask for the thorax.

When I tie emergers with snowshoe hair I ‘Usually’ pull out the underfur from the chunk of foot material I use for the wing and end up with more underfur than I can use. It makes excellent translucent dubbing, so all you need is the rabbit’s foot (whether you use the bottom or the top).
i also save the underfur when tieing emergers or spentwings, it makes an excellent dubbed body for usuals, and i feel like they float a little better having used all snowshoe to tie the fly
