VA Fly Fishing Festival

Was wondering who we might bump into in Waynesboro this year?
Haven’t been able to schedule it in for the last few years, but am making accommodations.

Mike K.

Hopefully I will make at least one day down there this year! If i do I will have my FAOL hat on, feel free to say howdy to me, I would like to meet any member from here…

Mike,

I’ll be fishing in the SNP. If you and Matt would like to meet up while you’re in the area and fish one of my favorite blue lines, let’s make a plan!

Marty

I’ll have my hat on also…might have to slap me to get my attention

Matt is supposed to accompany…I’ll be sure liscenses are in order. Need a trout stamp for the park?

Nope, no stamp, jes’ a standard issue freshwater license. I have the annual pass to keep you from paying the $15 entrance fee should we encounter a friendly ranger at either a Skyline Drive or boundary entrance. Should be a great time to be out weather- and bug-wise. Could have said the same for last year save the 6" of rain we got on the Saturday of that weekend…

I’ll be there with my son. Hopefully it won’t be flooded like last year.

I’ll be there also, only live a few miles away. I just hope it doesn’t rain like last year, geez, what a mess

Marty - check your pm’s…sent a note.

As far as the rain goes…all we can do is pray. But then again the fish are always wet

look for me tying gaudy pink and purple creations at the Casting for Recovery table.

Casey, maybe I will finally get a chance to meet you. By the way, did you ever get a chance to fish the Bamboo rod? How did it cast?

Before my wife starts packing food for me/us…any place in the area to get a GOOD steak? On-line searches have been mixed. Thnx

Yes, there is a Outback steakhouse, Chilis, Applebees, TGIF. many places to eat, drink and sleep. There is a hotel right off the highway in Waynesboro. If there are no rooms, try Staunton which is 8mi away. There are 4 or 5 hotels. I live in Staunton, if you need any help, PM me and I will throw you my phone number. Also, there is a Fly Shop right there in Waynesboro, it is called South River Fly Shop run by Kevin and Tom. Great guys, very knowledgable about the area and what might be hatching. The Festival is right on the South River and it have a great DH area were people are catching 18"-20" Rainbows. If the rain holds off, maybe we can get some fishing in. Also, Shenandoah National Park isn’t to far away, Mossy Creek and a few others are within a 1/2-1hr drive away. I hope to catch you all there. I hope the fudgeman can make it this year, his fudge was awesome. Let me know if you need anything.

In W’Boro, only the usual chains, but like NewTyer said, there is an Outback. Staunton has some pretty good non-chain places that serve a good steak. ‘Mockingbird’ has never let me down. If you are willing to drive about 20 minutes over the mountain towards Charlottesville, the Three Notch’d Grill in Crozet has REALLY good food. Or, you can keep going East on I-64 all the way into Charlottesville and your options are pretty good. The Aberdeen Barn is a solid choice if you’re willing to make the drive.

Just my $0.02. PM me if you need any other info.

The Aberdeen barn is first class, pricey, but really good. In Staunton my fav is The Mill Street Grill; the steaks are good but the baby backs are awesome! Great bar too, usually have an good IPA on tap. I hope to make it one day during the festival, the wine tasting and live music is worth the trip…

I knew I’d miss one. I second Mill Street.

I’ve looked at all of their menus…think I’ve figured a way to get most of them in :stuck_out_tongue:
Now I just have to nail down the sleeping and some fishing…not necessarily in that order.

Pig N Steak in Madison. A haunting experience. Mike, I’ll send you an email shortly…

Pig N Steak in Madison? Now that sounds interesting! Sounds very tasty…

Can anyone provide me with a link to this year’s festival? I can only find 2011.
Thanks
