The water at that festival always has alot more fish in it than people think. I live here and have seen it year after year. Take my word for it, just because alot of folks arn’t catching them dont mean there not there…
Well,
That does it…looks like a few of us FAOLers are gonna walk out into the South River & see what we can catch. At least when I fall in, Tim can drag me out…AGAIN!
Mike
Mike! I will be there! I have to pick the Sailor up on the 19th in Norfolk, coming home on leave.
Guys Gals, if you can, where your hats so we can know each other… If not, look for ours, and please introduce yourselves…
I don’t wear a hat of any kind. Just look for the silvered haired, potbellied guy there and you will have found me.
A little story about that river that I told on here 3 years ago–I grew up in Waynesboro and that river was a place that was off limits to everyone in that town. There were 3 industries upstream from where the festival is held-DuPont that produced pesticides and mercury, Crompton that made fabric and another company that made nylon/rayon. Where you will be fishing next week, you could walk across the river 60-70 years ago–on top of the water. The “material” that floated down was an irridescent purpleish black. No fish lived in that water and no plants, trees or grass, lived on its banks. Oh yes, and Waynesboro didn’t have a sewage treatment plant back then either. If there ever was a dead river, that was one of them. Now you can catch trout and other fish in it at any time of the year.Fortunately,I lived a couple of miles upstream and above the dam so the fishing was always good for me.
Anyway, looking forward to the festival and seeing all you guys.
George
George,
How can I ever forget that mug of yours? Believe me, we’ll have no trouble finding you OR Wayne as I never forget a face… As for Grubb, ohiofly, & I, we can be hard to spot…OR you can just look for 3 dumb & uglies in FAOL caps with one of 'em toting a bunch of candy (fudge) boxes!
In fact, why don’t we talk to Beau & have him take a vote for the ugliest old men at the show…then EVERYONE could find us!!!
Mike
Mikey! UGLIES!!!..More like more like the 3 stooges
I can’t go and you guys are going to make a grown man cry. You don’t want to do that do you?
Hi Nighthawk;
I guess we’ll have to post a bunch of pictures so you can join us is spirit!
Wayneb
Shoot. Gonna be too busy actually fishing both days in the SNP. So close, yet so far. Wonder if y’all had planned on checkin out the new special regs section…it’s worth some attention.
As stated earlier, I’ll be showing up with George so, I should have no problem finding you guys. I don’t have a FAOL hat but, will have my Iraq Vet hat on. Been a long time since I’ve been able to get out. Looking forward to it.
And i still plan on being there. Hope the weather is better than the forcast. But then, the prognosticators can’t get it right within 24 hrs, much less than 5-6 days out.
George
In the Park? Or in Waynesboro? SNP is up in Grubb territory. I have never fished up that way.
Not being able to go somewhere because of being somewhere else fishing is a bad thing??? LOL
George
Old #Art, the special reg section from what I understand is about a three mile stretch of the river we will be on, that is loaded with browns, I’m sure info can be found out at the festival. I was gonna keep that a secret…lol
MrFishingToughGuy good to see you posting, It would be nice to see you at the festival. I enjoy the fact that you will be up in the hills fishing when we are below, reminds me that someday our paths may cross on a mountain stream. AND I CAN PICK YOUR BRAIN! lol Just kidding, I like the mystery of the mountains.
They are calling for mixed weather and good friendship this weekend …
I guess I need to check to see if I can still get into my waders after being lazy this winter. May have to bring a rod or two also.
George
Hi All;
Weather for Saturday doesn’t look good at all, calling for thunderstorms, highs in the 60’s and 90% chance of rain. Do you think they will cancel or will weather just make things interesting?
Wayneb
Wayneb,
All the classes are under tent, except for the casting seminars. Vendors are under one main tent also, except for the ones down by the river-float tubes, canoes, etc.
I don’t have a clue whether they will cancel it or not. I don’t have a contact or know who to get in touch with. I would assume there could be something on the festival site. I’m still going anyway. I will just carry an umbrella or wear a raincoat.
My Tilly hat and and rain jacket will serve me well in the event of bad weather. This is going to be a father and son day…any recommendations on a great restaurant?
Bernie (and son)
farleycat.
Sorry but I wont be able to help there. Been too long since I spent any time in that little town. Im sure some of the people in the welcome tent can give you some info.
George
Seems like the weather is gonna keep some from attending this year. My plans have shifted some as well, I will wait closer to the day of b-4 I finalize if i will make the trip. Right now the weather is looking kinda wet and cold… . I will wait and see…
