Strike indicators. Pretty cool little doo dads.
They are like balloons except no inflating required. They come in like three or four sizes and bunch of colors including Black, White and Glow in the Dark.
They are plastic with a little ring on the side to attach to you line the same as a Yarn indicator.

That’s a neat fly! The first thing that came to my mind when I saw them was Fran Better’s "Piggy-Back Nymphs. The “thingabobbers” would work great for the “Piggy-Back Nymphs”.

I like the idea - I’ll have to look for those Unibobbers at my local fly shop.
What pattern is that? I likw the way it looks - very buggy. Do you think you could post the recipe?

Okay, there are two out there now. Thingamabobbers however are $5.+ for five, where Unibobbers are $2.+ for 6. Plus they are clear.
But that price makes a big difference.

When casting big dries like these they frequently land up side down. A quick jerk of the line and the fly flips over. A normal post on a parachute fly does not interfere nor add excessive weight. Looking at these things I would have to wonder about the weight factor and would they cause the fly to sit on its side in the water and not easily pop up right like they are supposed to.

I looked at the smallest Thingamabobber tonight and either these flies you have are large, or the unibobbers are allot smaller.
the unibobbers are only 1/4 inch diameter, smaller than thingamabobbers. get out the old ruler for the size. thingamabobbers start at 1/2 inch in diameter and would be too big for fly tying.

the unibobbers will still be good as strike indicators
hopefully I’ve talked Fly Goddess into making some leech patterns and using these unibobbers like eggs. I’m thinking it would work stillwater fishing with a minumim of type III sinking line- almost like a Booby fly, but a single boob/egg at the eye. Strip, strip, pause.
