UNI Tread

I was just experimenting with my 3/0 chartreuse Uni thread again and trying to use the darn stuff up. Regardless of which type of whip finisher or by hand, I could not snug up any more than three wraps on my whip finish. Four wraps seemed to bind every time because of that rough surface. It’s only one spool of thread and one person (me) so I won’t generalize to all 3/0 Uni. 8T

Well I guess we are in about the same boat on the 3/0 and I have several spools and all are the same. I don’t have the same problem with other sizes like 6/0. Maybe it’s old as has been said and maybe it’s something else, but all the 3/0 Uni I have is no good for me and that is all I really know. I have it in tan and red and just glad I don’t have more than I do and both are going in the trash as I am tied of wasting my time on trying to work with it.

Hi Skip,

I think we are pretty much in agreement that the Uni 6/0 and 8/0 are fine. In fact, I was using 6/0 Uni today and thinking how nice it was to get a slick, smooth whip finish after all the struggles I had yesterday. I’m happy to say that my single spool of 3/0 is FINALLY used up and gone. I don’t know why the 3/0 has such a rough surface compared to the other threads. No more 3/0 Uni for me! Take care. 8T

redacted…

I find that Uni thread is good for me, I have used Danvilles thread and fly master but have all broken on me every time I use the stuff, I have come to dislike Danville thread very much. I have a few rolls of the stuff left and am reluctant to use it. :frowning:

I have not had a problem with Uni thread and I think I’ll go back to it.
