Ugly Rudamus SBS

Originated by Montana tyer John Faust; not sure if this came before/after Doug Swisher’s Madame X, but they do seem to share some genetic code.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #8
thread - UTC 140 grey brown
tail - elk hair
body - Flashabou pearl
underwing - Flashabou pearl
over-underwing - turkey quill
head/wing - elk hair

Part 1

mash barb, start thread at head

clean, stack, measure (hook length+gap) a clump of elk hair; trim, tie in with 2 soft loops, tighten, spin, trim butts

clean, stack, measure (gap width) another clump of elk; tie in, wrap butts to head/trim

tie in some Flashabou, wrap to tail, leave tips hanging forward over head

wrap body; tie off/trim

Part 2

fold tips back, tie down, trim a bit longer than tail

tie in turkey/trim tips

push elk hair back around eye, distributing evenly all around

pull back, tie down with 2 soft wraps, tighten, whip finish, SHHAN

trim elk out underneath

go fish
