I am new to freshwater flies. For saltwater I tie for colors, flash or movement of material. Is there a place for rabbit fur, marabou or flashy material in freshwater flies. Would appreciate any help. Walt
There sure is Walt, rabbit for zonker flies, marabou for a whole bunch of lures, the sparkly stuff, you just add to whatever you like

Am presently tying a “Jackrabbit Special” for the Al Campbell Memorial.
It uses winter jackrabbit fur dubbed for the body, white hackle for tail and hackle.
Lots of winter road kill jacks around here and many on the inlaws ranch to shoot for a cleaner hide.

Walt, a lot of the patterns in my freshwater boxes, come right out of my salt water box. Surf Candies, Siliclones, Crease Flies, blended bait fish patterns, shrimp patterns become crayfish patterns. I just tie them with a more subdued flash. On the streams, I fish too much flash tends to spook the fish.
