Was out to a pond fishing and found a bunch of discarded mono line. Picked it up and stuffed in a pocket. Since the bite was very slow, I got to thinking (can be a dangerous thing for an old guy).
First, I had some hard thoughts about the folks that left the line laying around. I have these thoughts about any littler left around ponds. Then something niggled in the dark recess of my mind. You get to read about it; shortly. I do have a friend that can the line to a place that will recycle it.
But the thought that came to my mind was how much thread I cut off when tying flies and that it was not being recycled. The thread probably lasts as long as the fishing line.
So, I made a change in my tying. I now put the end of the thread down on the middle of the hook (no matter size), then start wrapping the thread over it. I am getting better at this but still have to cut some short pieces of thread off when wrapping down the hook.
Not saying that anyone else needs to do this. This is just my attempt to put a little less material in the landfill.
