Yesterday I dropped my vehicle off at the dealer for scheduled maintenance, plus a couple of problems. I’d been warned they would have no loaner for me, and I live 30 miles away, so I brought along my tying gear. I hiked down to the nearest mall, found a table in the cafe at Borders near a window, and set up shop. Four hours flew by and I had a half filled fly box to show for my efforts. I did get a few strange looks and some questions, but only felt slightly out of place since I didn’t have a laptop like most of the others who’d settled there for the morning.
What a great idea. I live in an area where fly fishing and fly tying is an oddity. I always carry a spare 5wt outfit in the truck so when an interested bystander is curious, I can let him or her try. I will make up a small tying case and leave it in the truck with the rod for times when I can tie and get someone interested.

I feel closer to HIM when I’m fishing.
