Two Quickies - Fly Tying Tips - Volume 5, Week 41 Fly Angler's OnLine

  1. When finishing the head of a fly, rather than using head cement. Try
waxing the thread (bee’s wax, available at fabric stores) prior to
whip finishing. As the whip finish is being completed the wax will
bond the knot together. This way the hackle and
the rest of the fly will not be messed up.

  2. Instead of using epoxy on the head or the body of the fly, Loon
Products has a coating called Hard Head. Appling this coating, depending
on the fly tiers needs, eliminates the mess and does a nice job. It may
be applied in several layers. ~ Brad Bohrer
