Two handed casts on single hand rod?

Was doing some lawn casting trying out an 8wt today and was getting bored and tired…so I got the wf part of the head outside the tip stripped out alot of running line line let it fall on the grass. I pinched the running line under my hand holding the grip (right hand) and grabbed the fighting but like a handle with my left hand. I did a sidearm back cast and an overhead foward cast (think it’s called a belgian cast) let go of my pinching and the line flew out with little effort. Not sure how uesful this is on the water but it was interesting I thought it was fluke but I managed to consitently throw out long smooth casts…longer then single handed casts I was making. Which might mean I need to work on my casting. But, has anyone experimented with using the fighting but as a lower handle?

I don’t use the fighting butt as a handle, but I usse two handed style (spey) casts with a single hander all the time. I use my left hand to add a little haul to gain some line speed. Really helps in cramped places with little backcast room.
