Anybody know where I can find T-Base in colors other than white? I prefer it to flats.
And no, I’m not going to dye it myself. My wife would have my head.
Thanks,
Steven

Steven,
I just googled it up and found this: http://www.feathersource.com/Feathers_05.html
Pretty interesting looking feathers. I’d never seen them before.

$2.00-2.75 a dozen? Whew. I’ll stick with flats, thank you!

One thing (among many) I have learned from A.K. Best that will help cut down on the cost at least a little is to use the quill of the T-base for quill bodies after you use the feather tips for the wings. He said that with the bird flu Chinese necks may be tough to come by and found the T-base and turkey flats quills easy to dye and make good quill bodies.

You can find both Turkey T-Base and Turkey Flats (both work equally well for tying parachute posts, though the T-Base feathers are a bit nicer) at Stone River Outfitters. They are a sponsor here and in my opinion, are one of the finest fly tying material suppliers out there - great service and fast shipment. They are in New Hampshire and I’m in Pennsylvania. If I order on a Monday, generally my package is sitting on my porch Wednesday morning. And that’s standard shipping too. They offer both types of feathers in a variety of different colors.
Just click “sponsors” on the left and scroll down until you see their site.

I’m not sure being new at tying but there are several places where I have bought Turkey Quills, and dyed feathers, one is the The Feather Place they have sets of Turkey Quills in just about any color amaginable for $.24 each I ordered mine and had them in 3 days, they are out of New York. the other place is Matoska, and the nicest natural color dyed was, Fish Hunter,by Osark Outfitters, matching quills in wonderful colors for tying. A bit higher but worth every penny.

Thanks guys. I’ll check out SRO. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about them lately.
Flats are fine for posts, but you can make a very nice split wing - a la wood duck or mallard - with T-base.
The micro fleck flats that Wapsi sells are very very nice (actually a lot nicer than their regular dyed flats). I just can’t understand why T-Base isn’t as popular or doesn’t come in as many colors.
