tungsten

got the supplies to tie some zebra midges and holy crap those tungsten beads are expensive. any alternative that sinks as well? i bought the regular beads and some light lead wire, but the fly looks bulky where i wrap the wire. any thoughts?

Use a regular bead and just wrap a few turns of lead wire, then push it into the enlarged hole of the bead. Add your fine silver wire for the rib and taper the body with thread.

Like this for the bead and lead wire

Dpenrod, you might contact JimmyT over on the flyfishingarkansas.com board. He sometimes puts together large quantity orders for some pretty good prices.
