Every time I read Betty Hiner’s tag line I think of the great places that I fish in my state of Idaho. This got me to thinking that maybe we could all share some of the great looking spots where each of us fishes during the year.
So, I’ll start us off with a few of my favorites:
The Big Lost River near Mackay, Idaho
Burch Creek, Idaho
Lower Henry’s Fork
Box Canyon of the Henry’s Fork
South Fork of the Snake River
And, as you all know, my personal favorite, Kelly’s No-Tellum Spring Creek in Southeast Idaho (oh, by the way, this pic was snapped just yesterday!).
Well, there is just a sampling from my backyard, where do you all fish?
Thanks for participating, and thanks, Betty, for stating it so clear when you remind us all that “Trouts don’t live in ugly places”!
Thank you, Kelly! It is, for sure, a true statement!
Snowy Range, Centennial, Wyoming
Again, Snowy Range. See the lake? Usually still iced out in July!
Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota. In addition to the trouts … there’s a deer standing at the waters edge.
This is one of my favorite places. It reminds me so much of the camp I went to as a boy. The lake was last stocked about 5 years ago with Brook Trout and one guy pulled a 15" fish out of the lake today! Alas, it was not me.
My grandson, Hunter and I are there now! We are having loads of fun with the fishing and doing a little hiking and exploring. Nice warm fall day at about 55 degrees
This beautiful lake is going to be drained shortly to repair the headgate that hasn’t worked for probably 50 years. That might sound bad, but the lake is only 13 ft deep and they are taking it down 10 ft. We will lose a lot of fish downstream, but there should be some remain and survive the winter if the lake doesn’t freeze solid. It will be restocked next spring once it’s full again.
While we would normally do quite a bit of C&R, we are keeping everything we catch today. Our fish are running 10-12 inches.
It just doesn’t get any better than this. And, Betty is so right. Trouts don’t live in ugly places.
Several of the places shown are also my favorites. Here’s a pic of the river where I started my flyfishing career. It’s just minutes from my house, and we’re fortunate to have it near. It’s a river of many moods, and it usually isn’t very nice to the casual fisherman. South Fork of the Snake
Some nice stuff here so far. Makes me want to pack up the gear and get in the car. Here is some more eye candy. It’s not just trout that don’t live in ugly places . . . that goes for other fish too : )
The Loch, RMNP
Chasing salmon and Rainbows with Denali as a backdrop
Stamp River, BC
Survivor Cove, Palawan, Philippines
NW coast of Queen Charlottes, BC
Rainforest meets the reef, Palawan, Philippines
On the hunt for Bones and Permit, Biscayne Bay, FL
Hunting Bull Trout and Coho on the Squamish River, BC
I’ve stolen Bettys’ statement many times with proper credit ( I might add). And also thanking the Almighty , I’ve also stolen/stated " Trout must be God’s favorite fish because He put them into His most beautiful waters" and I thank Him for giving me the opportunity to fish some of them.
The pics of my spots are in my memory.Trust me, they’re awesome as are those posted in this thread.
not to be a neagative nelly but one of the lakes around here got flooded along time ago so theres looottts of dead heads and its kinda ugly, that being said since the cutties cant go to the ocean as well as there feed they grow to over 12 pounds, i do agree tho that generally trout dont live in ugly places
