Trout Fishing Near Foxborough MA

I am going on vacation with my wife and children at the end of April to Foxborough, MA and was wondering what Trout fishing opportunities might be found within an hour or so’s drive from there. I would prefer river/stream fishing.

Any and all input appreciated.

Thanks!

Bob

I used to live down around that neck of the woods years ago. I can’t answer for trout fishing, but I know for a fact that the Charles River has excellent bass fishing. If I was going fishing on the Charles, I’d bring/rent a canoe, and I’d put in by Route 109 at the Millis/Medfield town line. Paddle upstream for a bit and you’ll come to a section where the river broadens out, lot’s of little hummocks/islands. That’s where I “almost” caught the biggest bass of my life. Great fishing there!

It may take you a bit longer to get to the Deerfield River from Foxboro, but I would imagine you could definately make it there under 2 hours - others on this site would know more about what’s what on the Deerfield.

There are two wondereful small streams on the west side of Wachusett Resevoir, in Holden Mass.: The Stillwater and the Quinnepoxet. A bit farther west is the Quabbin Resevoir, and most people fish the Swift River south of the Resevoir. I used to prefer the East Branch of the Swift in Petershm and Barre. It’s been a few years since I fished central mass, but at this time of year, the Swift is your best bet.
