Trout By the Numbers (TR)

Enough with the nymphs, non-tox and bobbers; time to find some fish looking up. Headed for the land of rounded shoulders

and yellow tin roofs

Off the highway

And on to the tough part - passing all this pretty water; some nice browns up here but can’t touch them 'till 3rd Saturday in May

Nope

Nope

Close; so close

Now we’re in business

Pedestrian traffic a bit heavy

Spring’s kinda on an accelerated pace here (touched 80 today). Hoped to find some skwalas, but I’m thinking it’s a bit late; no shucks or bugs. Tied one on anyway

and had at it. Not much happening in the deeper, quieter water

but found some lookers where the water had a head on it

rainbows only today

biggest hatch of the day

While I was stripping off my waders, felt something crawling on my arm; just as I was about to flick it off I looked down and found a Big Bug. Couldn’t get off a shot before he jumped but I followed him to a streamside bush

Like I said, things seem to be a bit ahead of schedule; hit the hatch a few years ago but that was mid-month. Could have just been a horny outlier because I didn’t find any more (maybe a stray blown up from farther downstream); if I get down here again I’ll hit the single digit MMs.

Scott
