Travelling Fly Tier's Case

I’m interested in finding a travelling fly tying case. One that is big enough to carry a vise, tools, and lots of fly tying materials. I have a case now that is about twice the size of a brief case, but it’s way too small. I want something that will hold several large plastic snap lid cases, plus a large vise a tools.
I’d post this on the “Things Wanted” board, but I’m just shopping for now.
Thanks for any direction you can grant.

Hey there Lotech,
If I were you, I’d opt for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sounds like that would fill the bill

How about this one?

LJ,

I bought one of those FishPond Coyote bags for VEE. Try as she might, she has trouble filling that puppy up. She’ll no doubt have it at Lowell if you can wait that long to see one.

The Fishpond case is awesome. More than enough room for taking materials along on a trip. I use mine for doing tying demonstrations as well as taking it on trips. Lot’s of

I think it’s the best one out there, but it is expensive. I got mine as a gift so it didn’t hurt the wallet.

Lotech,

While I was tying at our Sportsman Show this year one of our club members had one of those rolling tool boxes. It basically stacks and is pulled like carry on luggage. I had the thing crammed full of stuff. I believe if your not looking for anything that compact that it would be an option. You could always break it down in to a couple of pieces for travel if needed.

Good luck,
Seege

Hi Loteck, I like to use Plano tackle boxes for my traveling cases. They are economical and come in more than a bezillion (yes, count 'em) configurations. I have a couple in different sizes so I can match my destination requirements. Gerry

Lotech,

My wife got me a two tier plastic tool chest. It comes on wheels and has a lot of space. Just remember this truism, ‘The amount of stuff expands to meet the space alloted’.

Heres the Plano box I use, its the 777 and hold a lot of gear. The top is for crank baits and works out perfect for hooks and beads. I also found a bead holder at WalMart craft section, its 24 small snap closure boxes that fit tons of hooks and go nicely into the top of the 777. I carry my vice in the top and all my tools in one of the slide drawers. Comes with little plastic boxes perfect for tons of thread. Some of my bigger stuff I have in plastic containers.

Heres the 7771 and its even bigger than mine is. I might have to invest in this one.

And yet another, this is actually the one that I have, sorry for the confusion.

I recently went through this situation when switching from my previous combo of an electrician’s tool box (suitcase type with the tool dividers) to something a little bigger. To say the least I was intrigued and impressed by the fishpond system as well as the JW outfitters, but price came into play for me, and the Barely a Ripple bag is what I settled on. It has tons of dividers, and uses a very similar set up to the fishpond - lots of pockets as well as a padded vise pocket and some tubes and hook boxes. I had no trouble getting 90% of my materials in it. I would recommend this bag whole heartedly with one reservation. the zippers are decent, but if you just reef on them at some point I imagine they will seperate. That’s my two cents anyway. I’m still very pleased.
