A friend’s daughter, working at a pet shop, gave me some macaw feathers that were shed by the bird along time ago.<br>
Finally got to use them along with some barred wood duck.<br>
Tail, yellow macaw. Tag, Peacock herl. Body, silver mylar. Wing, barred wood duck flank. Beard, red and yellow macaw.

Beautiful tie of one of my favorite patterns! I love tying the lake fly version with a matched pair of full barred woodduck feathers as the wing.

Here is a Tomah Joe lake fly I tied a few years ago:
It’s tied on a Lee Schecter blind eye hook, size 4, if I remember correctly. I did not have any twisted gut for the snell so I just used monofilament. That’s a regret I have because I like the proportions of the fly.
