God Bless all,
Eric
The Commanding General at Fort Hood says the shooter was wounded but taken alive.
Iâm with you on this Eric. It saddens me when anything negative happens among our uniformed best.
My thoughts and prayers are with them as well. Had a tough time sleeping last night. For some reason this tragedy awakened some old feelings.
Dave
Sad.
That is all I can say.
I am most upset by this sad event.
My Dad, a career Army Sergeant Major, was stationed at Ft. Hood during the mid-sixties. I have many wonderful memories of living there. I graduated from Killeen H.S., the town right outside the Fort.
It seems inconceivable. There is no refuge from the mentally disturbed!
My thoughts are focused on the families of those killed and injured.
Say a prayer for them and all who have been scarred by this needless tragedy!!
Bob
Prayers go out to the dead and their families, and also for the wounded and theirs.
Think of the folks who deployed from Ft. Hood & are overseas right now. My son & several other guys in his unit were in formed & got in touch RIGHT AWAY
Next to ENGINEERS ya gotta love tankers
infantry
medics
artillery
QM
aviation
transportation
Oh heck We love em all
Me too, Dave. I spent most of my career stationed at Hood.
first terrorist attack on us soil since 9/11/2001. itâs been hard to take for everyone, but it seems to me that the army families are taking it much harder than the soldiers are. theyâre amazing.
but iâve spent most of the past 24 hrs engaged in this w/some surprisingly key counter-terrorism people who emailed/called starting almost immediately. (itâs a LONG story most of yâall woudnât believe even if i told it)
no matter what you hear/read in the mediaâŚincluding from govât officialsâŚdonât think for a second this was not a long-planned, well-executed act of islamic terrorism that took a great degree of training, logistical preparation, and a dedicated enemy to pull off. this one didnât just hang out here for a few year and learn to fly a plane. he was born and raised here, joined the army, trained hard, chose his weapons carefully, waited for the right moment to strike, screwed up and was about to get caught, and struck before he lost his chance. and this one only took one guy acting solo to pull off. but it is TEXTBOOK al qaeda from front to backâŚside to sideâŚtop to bottom. and just in case some of you may have forgotten, most of aqâs top operatives are doctors or engineers with advanced degrees from ivy league or prestigious european graduate schools. this IS how the âold skoolâ al qaeda operates: 1-2 guys who âbehavedâ for YEARS suddenly pop up and say, âboo!â no apparent external support, direction, training, or chain-of-command. butâŚin hindsightâŚthere were always some pretty significant warning signs. but hindsight is always 20/20âŚespecially to professionals who eat, breathe, and sleep counter-terrorism. not so much to their neighbors, co-workers, etc.
I too was stationed TDY at Ft. Hood in 68 and am speechless and pi$$ed regarding this tragedy. We have to WAKE UP and admit that islamic terrorists are our ENEMIES deserving not the rights to our courts but to our firing squads ( rounds dipped in pigs blood).
Mark
PS: But then again, Gitmo will be closed . That will solve everything. Peace and tranquility are just around the corner.
Mark,
Itâs certainly not âpolitically correctâ, but you & I (as usual) are on the same page with the resolution to this problemâŚNO mercy!
That being said, my prayers go out to all survivors, loved ones, & comrades of the victims.
Mike
This was the âdonât send reinforcements to Afghanistanâ message, folks. Thatâs what goes on in that building: last-minute paperwork prior to deployment regarding legal, medical, dental records.
Everyone will say, âHe acted alone.â YesâŚof course he did! Weâll likely never find a handler. Thatâs not how AQ runs in itâs heart and soul. Mid-level and up AQ-affiliated/trained/indocâd terrorists are fully capable of 100% autonymous operations of this sort and worse. 9/11 was a âgrade schemeâ or a âspectacleâ that was very unusual for them. But Thursday was very typical.
As the General saidâŚreal kick in the gut. Exactly what a terrorist attack is supposed to accomplish.
Out thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragedyâŚ
I am with you guys too. Mike did you know that the 4Th Infantry Division is based at Ft. Hood?
I see on the news that this individual will probably get the death sentence and be executed if convicted. Lets remember folks that, like it or not, he is entitled to a trial by Court Martial. To deny him that would make us hypocrites. Here is an article on that:

At first I wanted to take vengeance on this guy but that would be wrong and make me no better than him. What I want is justice. Justice for his victims, my brothers and sisters in arms that he killed and injured. Justice for their friends and families. To me the only way that justice is served will be via his execution and making him stand before the ultimate judge. I shall abide by my Creatorâs wish and leave vengeance to Him.
I also want that wonderful, brave officer decorated so much that she wonât be able to stand up straight for the weight of the medals. This maniac wounded her and through the anguish of her own wounds while in great danger she neutralized the threat. Talk about courage and valor under fire, there it is. HOOAH to Officer Kim Munley! I am damned proud of you! Mr. President give this brave officer The Presidential Medal Of Freedom!
My prayers to the men and women who were injured and to the families of those who gave their lives serving our country.
Eric,
As you know, I was with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam & will always have a special place in my heart for any & all who served or serve wearing the Ivy Leaf.
Of course, it was Troops of the 4th who captured Saddam Hussein!
God Bless ALL our troops!
Mike
One of the dead is a dearly loved Army psychiatrist from here at Ft. Bliss, a native of El Paso. He was on his way to Afghanistan as part of a combat stress teamâŚto try to care for soldiers on the battlefield suffering from combat fatigue. He was also a Major.
For military spouses (like me), this wounds deeplyâŚbut not nearly so deeply as for the spouses of the victims, of course. Iâve talked to many spouses over the past few days. We try to take care of each other. Up to now, weâve had to worry about our soldiers when they go âwheels up.â The possibility of some terrorist harming them or killing them doesnât become real until they land in some far off land. It lasts for a year, and then they come home to safety for a year and we get a break from that stress. Well, for MPâs that is different, too. But those of us married to MPâs know weâre a bit unique in that respect. But for the rest, theyâre freaking out. Now they have to live with the fear every time their spouse puts on their uniform and walks out the door in the morning. And they arenât dealing with it so well. We will likely see yet another increase in divorce rates, which are already soaring into the 75% rangeâŚand even higher in many units in the Army and Marine Corps. And we are likely to see a correlated drop in reenlistments among NCOs and officers. That will be a DIRECT HIT to force readiness and proficiency. But it will also be a lot of just plain old-fashioned pain, suffering, and heart-ache to a bunch of Americaâs finest families.
Less than 15% of Americans know a member of US military personally. If you know a military familyâŚeven casuallyâŚgo out of your way to encourage them. Veterans Day is November 11thâŚthis coming Wednesday.
