Just another Tiger Eye creation. 9 foot, 5/6 weight.

Very nice, Tim… That length & weight is real good all around, My favorite, for sure…
…pretty rod…Dan
I knew you would use that handle and seat on something fabulous. You can not go wrong with the tiger eye blanks. In my opinion one of the best to own. That being said very nice rod my friend. good work
That is pretty! How about a larger pic so I can actually see some of the detail on that seat, please!
Pretty, pretty, pretty!! And just wait till you see it in the sunshine!! It’ll distract you from watching the fly!
I have to come up with a lathe to turn handles. That’s all there is to it.
That is sharp.
Nicely done, Tim.
John
Lest someone get the wrong idea I didn’t create the reel seat and the grip. I purchased it on EBay. I just thought the rod looked pretty good so I thought I would share with you.
Tim
Good job Tim, what’s next, the 8/9 wt for Umpqua steel?
Cheers,

What type of wood is the grip made of?
Beautiful work. If I ever get around to having a custom fly rod built, it will probably be fairly similar, aesthetically, to this beautiful creation. Nice work!
Great looking rod. What kind of wood is used for the handle. Does the handle get slippy when it gets wet?
Like I said I bought the handle on EBay. It was 20 bucks plus shipping. Whether it gets slick when wet - don’t know. My cousin has a St Croix with a wood handle and I asked him the same question before I bought this one and he said no. I will just have to wait & see.
About the type of wood. Here is what the seller placed in his ad.
“Up for bid is an African Padauk fly rod handle and reel seat with matching mini fighting butt. Padauk is a beautifull wood from Africa. It is a real deep burnt orange with dark almost black mottled stripes in it. This is a cigar style handle, a little slimmer than most handles I turn. It is a hair under one inch diameter at the fat part, and about 7 inches long. I have an inlay with the image of a black and orange wooly bugger in the seat.”
The sellers handle is “cigarpen” and while I like what I got I must tell you I don’t know him and have had no other dealings with him. Right now he has some seats listed but no grips.

I think you’re going to like your new stick. I built a 2 piece, 6 foot, 3 weight a while back. While working with it, I broke about 4 inches off of the tip. I went ahead and finished it and took it out for a test cast or two. Turns out that the 4 missing inches turned that rod into the fastest 4 weight I’ve ever cast with. That little puppy is a rocket at 5 feet 8 inches.
