Thunderthumbs

Hey Hugo,

Sorry we didn’t get into the Redfish like I thought we would. Especially when we found that large school of mullet on that flat.

Here’s an excerpt from another forum I visit.

Once we found the large schools of mullet, we found the redfish. They were quite hungry, which made me quite happy. I caught eleven feisty reds and only a couple were just under slot. The largest 21 inches.

Perhaps we just didn’t throw the fly the Reds wanted.

Glad we hooked up with some oysters for you though.

We’ll definitely try for them Reds again next year.

Figured with all the mullet & finger mullet on the Lemon Bay flats there should have been lots more fish caught, but it doesn’t always happen like that in Florida. Just as it can rain on one side of the street & not the other at the same time! Mark caught an oyster at Spring Lake, didn’t fight quite like the ladyfish ! 8)

Hugo (Thunderthumbs) got into a school of oysters on Friday … caught 6 of them. No fight to 'em whatsoever. They were on a platter … on ice … on the half shell … in Tampa … at HOOTERS.

p.s. I had wings.

Not the same ambience as Hooters, but the catch!

Hmmm, do you suppose there’s an IGFA category for oysters on the fly?

Hey guys,

Gil, no problem on not finding any reds. I’ve been told (and told others) that’s why they call it fishing and not catching. Either way it was a blast just anticipating a red or two mingling in with them and then finding one of our flies. I’d love to give it another try again next year.

The oysters on the fly were a challenging species to catch. It’s actually quite difficult to get them to bite (made much easier if you use my patented “server fly” which is available for a reasonabel fee), but when they do, well I’ll just say that the eating is quite good…and the atmosphere as well, but it’s the company that makes a great meal. Thanks Gil.

I’ve been off the internet to help out around the house. My dad had a surgery to put a shunt in his brain to drain excess cerebral spinal fluid that was putting pressure on his brain. Now when he gets cranky we’ll have to tell him to go and drain the main brain. He’s doing much better already. In fact he’s already talking about how he’s going to whip us on the golf course this summer!

I’ve got my camera with me today, so I’ll try to post some pics a bit later.

Thunderthumbs.

Glad everythings going great at home & that you got to relax for a while on the Florida waters & with the oyster shuckers ! That’s where Mark wanted to go when he saw the signs in Murdock for Dennys over the Hooters sign, but we’d of never got to fish after those grog rounds ! Let those thumbs thunder some pictures thru the computer of what I couldn’t report on :!:  8)
