Three marabou winged streamers from Jim Warner

These are three marabou winged streamers from Jim Warner. My favorite thing about these flies is the construction of the body, where the flat tinsel is the rib for the oval tinsel.

Throat: Red hackle fibers
Underwing: Yellow then red bucktail, tied sparse

Topping: Silver pheasant crest (this is tough to find, so you can sub with peacock herl)
Eyes: Painted

Alberto, how do you do those eyes? They are awesome!
Mike

Mike,

I use different sized metal dowels that I found in an old fly tying kit. You can do the same thing with different sized brads and finishing nails. For example, to do the black and white eyes, select two different sized nails, bigger for the iris, smaller for the pupil. Start with one drop of white craft paint on a piece of paper. Carefully dip just the top of the nail head into the paint and touch it to the head of the fly. Repeat for the other side of the head and let it dry. To do the pupil, use the smaller nail and one drop of black craft paint. Once the black craft paint is dry, coat the head with UV cure epoxy to protect the eyes.

Alberto

Beautifully tied, Alberto.

Got it! Thanks Alberto, I have plenty of nails as test subjects!

I bought some Bamboo skewers for a couple dollars at a grocery store, and sanded the points down. Did the same painting trick with nail polish on some jigs.

Another great idea! Thanks Alberto. Those puppies will be hard to miss!
