Thread control on fly head

How is it done? Especially seen on the more complex salmon patters where numerous materials need to be tied in at the head of the fly. The buildup (even when minimum turns) are made the thread slopes drasticly twords the eye. How do you keep the thread from slipping down the slope as you progress twords the eye.

There must be a trick. Sometimes everything goes well but most of the time it seems to take forever to get the thread to lay down and stay put.

Leo,
Try staging the materials so that you are not applying them right on top of one another. Remember a hackle collar will hide some of the staging.
On really sloped heads make slow , firm , secure turns with the thread . Wiggle the the thread slightly to seat it better. If you are using slick winging materials like squirrel try putting some thinned flex cement on first and allow it to tack up. a well waxed thread really helps with this. This wax should be rosin based and not the type that is similar to Toilet bowl sealing ring wax, though that type will work.
Hope this helps ,
Jim
